What are the reasons that lead Pope John XXIII to remove the conversions of the Jews and Muslims in the Act of Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. He also removed the absolution of venial sins at the Communion of the Faithful in the Ordinary of the Mass. Aren’t all these things important? I trust the Pope in his decisions but what are the reasons? I fear it might me false ecumenism and a devaluing of the importance of confessing venial sins which ultimately lead us to Mortal sins.

Thanks!

Only the second confiteor and absolution were dropped but at a lot of EF’s today they are still said. The Confiteor and Absolution at the beginning of Mass were never dropped.

True. That 2nd confiteor was simply a duplication, and really an unnecessary one at that. It came into the Mass in the first place because it was in the rite of communion of the faithful (which was the rite for communion outside of Mass) which was itself imported.

So what about the removal of the conversions of the Jews and Muslims in the Act of Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus? Is that true? Pretty confused:confused:

I don’t know about that. The only controversial aspect of Pope John’s changes were insertion of St. Joseph into the Canon of the Mass, because the Canon of the Mass had been supposedly protected from changes by Quo Primum. I could be wrong on this though.

Which specific prayer is do you mean? There are several, including the one by Ste Margaret-Mary. I could be wrong, but I don’t think that was ever changed.
