Pope Leo XIII

I had absolutely no clue where to ask these questions, so sorry if it’s in the wrong place.

Today I have been thinking a lot about Pope Leo XIII and I began to wonder, why hasn’t he been pushed much for canonization? Does anyone know anything about his cause for canonization, have any recent Popes talked about him concerning this matter? Are there obstacles to this, hence nothing happening so far?

The Pope before him is a Blessed and the Pope after is a Saint… Just makes me wonder.

I don’t know anything of Pope Leo XIII’s cause.

He gave us the great **Prayer to St. Michael **and wrote many good encyclicals.

I especially like his one word response to St. Pius X when Pius [Giuseppe Sarto] was elevated to the episcopacy (or to become a cardinal, I don’t recall) and wrote the pope begging not to be selected for so great a responsibility – Pope Leo XIII said in a letter: Obey. 🙂

I’m not sure there are “obstacles” so much as just the lack of a really compelling reason.
 
Unless someone here works for the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, any explanation is likely to be speculation.

Really, there are only 5 popes in the past 1000 years that have been canonized. Pius X was the first one since the 1500s. Before that, it was the 1200s. So it’s not as though it’s unusual for him not to have been canonized.

There does seem to be a recent uptick, though. Pius IX, John XXIII and John Paul II are all beatified. Leo may get there yet. 🙂
