It would be a most marvelous blessing if this meeting led to more awareness, charity, patience and prayers for the mentally ill in throughout our Church.

Maybe that is what she was trying to do when she showed up twice trying to get near the Holy Father. I’ve had mentally ill people come up to me in public many times, even when I was a police officer in a uniform which many times can upset people. My mother used to say that they could see something in me that let them know I was “safe” and someone who could help them. Who more than Pope Benedict would be that shining light of Christ to a confused and disturbed person looking for something, anything to stop the confusion in her head?
