The Holy Father met with some victims of priest sex abuse.
Apr. 17, 2008 (CWNews.com) - Pope Benedict XVI (bio - news) held an unannounced meeting with victims of sexual abuse on April 17, at the residence of the apostolic nuncio in Washington.
The Pontiff’s afternoon meeting with 5 victims of abuse by Catholic priests had not been announced or included on the schedule for the Pope’s visit to the US. But Vatican sources confirmed after the fact that the meeting had taken place. The Pope met with each individual privately for a few minutes.

Thanks for posting this. I have not been able to catch any of the EWTN reporting.

This is good to hear. Hopefully it will bring some peace to these victims.

What a remarkable example to give to the bishops and to the world. I liken it to John Paul II going to meet his would be assassin…only in reverse. Instead of going to extend forgiveness, this Pope went and asked for it. I hope all victims can one day forgive those who abused them and come home to the love and mercy of Christ.

This is getting real play in the press. Here is another CNN story.

This is a very big deal.

Our Holy Father has guts!

Now perhaps he get on with it and get rid of that horrid Law for the terrible things he did in Boston and there can finally be some reconcilliation. The Pope has made a start at least after years of silence.

Reaching out to those who are in pain, is the right thing to do. It promotes healing and forgiveness. Praise God.
We should all pray that this will not happen again.

God bless,

I read that he was also given a book with 1500 names of victims. The Holy Father told the victims that he prays for all of the victims of abuse every day, and was pleased to have the book so that he might use some actual names.

I have been SO impressed with the Pope’s visit-he has touched so many people and I hope that will lead to a greater awakening of faith in our church.
