[Not the category I’d like, but the closest thing. Many contemporary Catholics, particularly younger ones, have no idea who Pope Pius XII even was. John Paul II, Paul VI, or John XXIII is the furthest back their consciousness goes. As I have said elsewhere, for many people, the Church began in 1962.]

Anyway, on the lighter side, is it just me, or has anyone else ever picked up on this?

The figures were modeled by Wood’s sister Nan Wood Graham and their dentist Dr. Byron McKeeby.

“McKeeby.” Hhmmm. Definitely suspicious. It sounds exactly like the sort of name an Italian prelate would pick as an alias while living in hiding as an alleged “dentist” somewhere in Iowa.

Actually…McKeeby was in the Witness Protection Program and they set him up as “Pope Pius XII”. Brilliant!!!
You’re one funny guy!

We deal enough with apostasy, sacrilege, moral decay, loss of respect for life, and so on… nice to be able to find something in our Church to laugh about once in a while!

I’m sure Pius XII himself would have gotten a chuckle out of this, if it had ever been called to his attention. He was the first pope ever to have visited the United States (before he became pope), and from what I heard, he mitigated the eucharistic fast largely in recognition of mid-century American lifestyles and the difficulty of fasting from midnight onwards.

For all we know, he may have even had a slice of New York-style pizza or a hot dog from a street vendor. Or maybe gravy, biscuits, and country ham if he got far enough South. Who can say?

Hipster Gothic! (Updated for the 21st century.)

That pretty young lady didn’t need all that ink on her arms. (Not judgement, just taste.)
