Pope resigning in an hour and a half

I’m a new Catholic and I’m really excited about the Pope resigning. Naturally, I feel for Pope Benedict Emeritus and wish he were in better health. I don’t have a Catholic family or anything. I’m actually from an Anti-catholic family so I don’t have anyone to share my excitement with. It IS a thing to be excited, right?

I guess that came out wrong. I’m not excited ABOUT his resignation. I’m excited about the events that come about because of his resignation.

During the last Conclave, I was away from the church and was just fascinated with the process. Now that i’m back in the church, i’ll probably be more than just fascinated with the upcoming Conclave.
 
It is definitely exciting! I admire Pope Benedict tremendously and wish he was able to continue to lead (and reform) the Church as Pontiff but this event is a sign of the Holy Spirit at work in the Church. The Pope in his wisdom is setting a modern-day precedent in an era when life expectancy can sometimes out-strip our ability to carry on with our lives as we would wish to do. Saying prayers for the conclave and the future Pope.
 
I think there is an excitement anytime that there is something unusual happening around the pope. It’s a natural psychological response. Even non-believers are in awe these days. Let’s face it, popes don’t abdicate everyday.

Excitement is a neuropsychological response regulated by the brain’s amygdala. It’s neither positive or negative. It is what it is, adrenalin running through our central nervous system. Sometimes, we can make ourselves feel guilty, because we feel excitement, when in reality it’s agitation that we feel. It’s not really joy.
 
During the last conclave, I remember a great interest and feeling of hope, and because our eyes were on Rome, we had a sense of the great history of the Church. Well, I think there was excitement too, with the hope, because we knew we were witnessing a concrete act of the Holy Ghost.
 
May God bless Benedict XVI. I do hope and pray that he finds some energy to write some more.

Its exciting to see a conclave. Its sad that he is leaving. BTW I am sick of people calling it “The crisis of the Catholic Church”!! We will survive this!! LOLYou know what the crisis of the Catholic Church is? All the anti-catholic propaganda that is out there. If this were any other religion it would be covered better. I am sick of people blaming him for the acts of others. If I lived in an apartment complex and someone commeted a crime, should I be charged too?

Yet it is interesting how “Excited” the media became on the morning of the announcement. You would have thought that the Parousia was happening. All the networks got their senior anchor’s to do emergency remote sessions from their living room…

"We interupt our regularly scheduled program to bring you this special report… The Pope has resigned… and now to Walter Cronkite who was temporarily raised from the grave to bring us this important development… "

My Evangelical and atheist co-workers bombarded me with email and instant messages the moment I logged onto my computer that morning…

Is this legit? Can the Pope do this? What does it mean? Are you shocked? Is this because of how he is personally responsible for killing millions of Africans with AIDS because he refused to allow them to have contraception? is this the end of Catholicism? When do you think the seven year tribulation will start? Do you think you will be one of the ones who is left behind?

The world hates the Church and hates the Holy Father, but as my own father used to say, they “Tip their hand” as to every human being’s desire to know God. Whenever anything big happens in the world, these same people turn and say, “What does the Holy See have to say?”

The funniest thing is that my daughter was studying Church History in her AP World History class that very week. She is one of only two Catholics in her class. Her Dominican Sisters of St. Cecelia run Catholic school education was worth every penny that day, as she calmly explained the structure and history of the Church to her Baptist, Evangelical, atheist, Islamic and Hindu friends, and to the teacher. 😉

🙂 That is exactly how I understood your first post, so no worries on my part!

I am both sad for his departure, excited about what comes next, and in awe of his humility in resigning and in awe of the potential for our next leader. May he truly be elected by the guidance of the Spirit and may the Spirit work through him to lead us on journey following God’s plan for our Church.

In every day life, it is easy to focus only on our local parish or diocese and forget how truly large, varied and world wide the Church is. I love that this occasion - though one of both sorrow and joy - also brings that reminder.

Isn’t that remarkable? 11:00 AM right on the dot. We keep our computer clock fast, and I never know the exact time and can only estimate.

I am one who believes that things happen for logical reasons, and I feel like its good that the new pope will be blessed with the ability to talk with the previous pope, which hasn’t been done really…!

Now that’s a gift… Two men talking -who have both sat in the chair! Interesting. 🙂
 
I think it is something to be excited about.

Those who think happiness about a new pope is automatically a jolt at the last, are just over-thinking.

The Church is ever new in this sense.

It’s almost springtime (hopefully, I’m tired of the cold) and we have a springtime in the Church.

Besides, this process is sure fun to watch and now with technology, this next month is going to be great, we’ll really be able to see all kinds of stories and such. Just beware of the purpose of some reporting.

Well said. Pope Benedict will always be in my prayers. He is a good and faithful shepherd of Christ’s church. And, Holy Mother Church will find her way with the help of the Holy Spirit.
After all, remember … the gates of hell will not prevail against her.
The media is covering this event as expected … poorly and with their agenda.
