Vatican shuns defectors and backs calls for Anglican unity
The Pope is leading an unprecedented drive by the Roman Catholic Church to prevent the fragmentation of the worldwide Anglican Communion ahead of the once-a-decade gathering of its 800 bishops, which begins today, The Independent has learnt.
could this be true? could the pope not want conversion to the catholic church if it fragments the heretical episcopalians? if this is the case, i understand why we have a sspx.

It’s a newspaper. They speak of “insiders” who “say” this or that.

Let’s just wait and see what happens and not stir up rumors.

Maybe Pope Benedict regards the fragmentation of the Anglican Communion as an obstacle towards their eventual reunification with the Catholic Church. He’s a very smart man, I wouldn’t just dismisss his opinions.

And how are the sspx any better than protestants, really?

for one they are catholic with a priesthood and teach orthodox morality. but that’s just for starters.

i tend to think that this article is misleading. there is no way B16 would not want episcopalians to become catholic. i reject any idea that it’s better to stay outside the visible church in ordedr to keep a heretical morally bankrupt church together.

sounds to me that the some cardinals in the vatican are against traditionalist anglicans for the same reason they are against traditionalist catholics–they are modernists. B16 is not a modernist.

Heh, B16. First time I’ve seen him called that. It’s like the Pope is a vitamin. Good for the soul, anyway.

I bet it has more to do with his concern for the laity. It’s very hard to go through a schism, I imagine. If they are going to return to the Church, it should be from a sincere desire to return and not simply just to have someplace to go. Just an opinion here.

Anywho, I would tend to trust his intentions, whatever they actually are regarding this matter. Wait and see seems like solid advice to me.

I am always amazed when I see Latin Catholics attack their own churchmen and demonize them with labels implying that they are defective some how.

The second post in this thread was the best response.

Perfectly sensible.

could this be true? .
No! There are issues to be dealt with before Rome can embrace wholdesle a group that will retain much of its own governance and form of worship. It will take time, but if you stay in touch with the story you will see the steps taken to reunite them.

i’m always amazed at how much time non catholics spend in these forums. maybe because deep down they know the catholic church is the one true church.

the latin church does have a good deal of the smoke of satan still inside.

But they’re still protesting, are they not? And I don’t think you can credibly call a group that’s in schism with the Catholic Church, catholic.

Anglicanism, under it’s current form is known to the Vatican, and to Benedict XVI of the Catholic Church as an “ecumenical” (“Church-like”) community, but is not recognized as an actual “Church” due to their belief in the loss of so-called Apostolic lines in much of the Anglican communion, it is both seen under such by the Vatican, and as a so-called “Material heresy” ( c.f. grave, not always “mortal”)(C.f. Trent) (Actual requires knowledge and consent- Catechism) under official definition, it would not be the interest of the pope to prevent Anglicans converting, perhaps a waiting period of teaching, but not what this suggests, read the “Holy smoke” blog, it is indeed of note… p.s. second link does not work, “Material heresy” from OCE, of course, the churches reverting would likely have to state obedience to the Roman, Apostolic, Catholic church, and confess their previous beliefs as false, or incorrect as regards Infallibility etc… meaning complexity between the two bodies.

How about “ecclesial community”?
There is only one Church. We believe in One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. A Catholic parish could be a church community, or ecclesial community, because it shares those four marks. A church community has full sacramental life and must be in union with the one Church if it is to be a church community. There can not be ten or ten thousand bodies. There is one. Protestant denominations are seperated from the one Church. Some have valid baptism. Rome does not accept the validity of Anglican Holy Orders, meaning their Eucharist is not valid. They are not Catholic or part of the Catholic Church despite their claim or desire to be so, because they have separated themselves both doctrinally and through governance that comes from Rome. They can restore unity at any time by embracing Catholic doctrine and recognizing the authority of Rome if that is what they wish to do. Some apparently are working on that, because the direction of their general leadership has radically departed from Christian doctrine and morals. Other groups within Anglicanism are separating from the radicals, but are not interested in reunion with Rome.

I hang around here because I find it interesting to read your posts.

I agree with you. many liberals within the Church is trying to mislead Catholics into believe what the pope is really trying to do.

watch out Catholics! go to the true source to see what the holy is really doing.

i think that the Church must let go of those who do not want to abide by the Church s teachings. they have been disruptive and misleading.

as catholics we must see who they are and give them no support.
i believe that if Catholics are serious about the Church we all must work together to bring the Church back where it belongs.

we must support the holy father.
BXVI does not agree with what kaspers is doing.

Lord be Mercyfull to me, a sinner.
