It’s common sense.

However my priest used his cell phone as a flashlight when the power went out one time.
One of the priests I know puts his homily on his phone. He always says “why should I kill a tree”.

In the same way, I know many are enjoying apps like iBrievery. I know a few elderly enjoy it because they can have huge text witout fighting over the half dozen oversized print missels. I think people should know the bounds of phones but should be careful not to judge others.
That’s not what the Pope meant.

He was referring to people taking out their phones to take pictures during mass

And what I’m saying is that there ARE perfectly legitimate reasons to “be on your phone” so we should NOT take the calling of the Pope to bully others.

Which is what I’m sure a large number of people will do.

It is obvous from the title of this post that what most people here is “no cell phones at Mass” and not “be respectful and don’t go amateaur photographer and text.”

is it okay to use any other non bodily thing while listening to something of importance? Would it be okay to bring a mini tv and watch it while listening at Mass? If there is not more stricter guidelines at such Masses, someone might bring in a bomb.

If you know of possible dangers, why not fix the leak holes?

Isaiah 62:6-7
" have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, which shall never hold their peace day nor night: ye that make mention of the LORD, keep not silence, And give him no rest, till he establish, and till he make Jerusalem a praise in the earth."

Matthew 5:33-35
“Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths: But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God’s throne: Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.”

OK - I’m failing to understand your point. Are you afraid that some people will say you can’t use your smart phone as a missal?

Given the fact that the OP couldn’t even get the title right, yes, I think that the media and those who just look at headlines will be jerks.

I don’t use it but I’m annoyed on behalf of all the old ladies who rely on their phones to have a missal. Believe me, people are self-rightious enough. They don’t need help.

It’s funny–when the Pope says things that can be intpreted as “liberal” people jump all over it. But when the Pope says something conservitive, people are more than happy to make the same encompasing, general statements that the headlines proclaim.

some College Professors hate it when their students use their cell phones during class. I mean they absolutely ‘hate’ it… Some have even got ‘fired’ for hating it so much.

Yes, because they think you are texting.

The problem with smart phones (vs laptops) in class or in meetings is that the use of the smart phone looks like you are not paying attention.

So it can communicate an unintended message.

That’s why I personally do not use my phone as a missal during mass or another official public liturgy, though I do use it myself when praying outside of public worship (even in a Church)

Though, I don’t use the missals any way during Mass, I use them before or after mass. 🙂

I thought I was the only one to use a Missal before and after Mass, but not during.

Great minds think alike. < grin >

(Not overly fond of emojis)

Blessings,
Stephie

And this is the reason why I’d rather use a hand Missal (Daily Roman Missal or Ang Bagong Misal) for Mass than relying on iBreviary.
