Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) – As pro-life advocates expected and hoped for, Pope Benedict XVI told leaders of Catholic colleges and universities that they need to uphold Catholic values. The speech is considered a great help for pro-life advocates concerned about college shosting pro-abortion speakers and candidates.

Problem is, we can’t enforce this entirely. Sure, it would be nice. But let’s get real here. New age stuff in making it’s way into Catholic institutions. 😦

Thank you Pope Benedict XVI for your efforts to bring the schools back to Holy Mother Church.

About 400 educators attended and I wish there were more.
“Teachers and administrators, whether in universities or schools, have the duty and privilege to ensure that students receive instruction in Catholic doctrine and practice,” Benedict said. “Divergence from this vision weakens Catholic identity and, far from advancing freedom, inevitably leads to confusion, whether moral, intellectual or spiritual.”
Here is the full speech. …👍

While we have sought diligently to engage the intellect of our young, perhaps we have neglected the will. Subsequently we observe, with distress, the notion of freedom being distorted. Freedom is not an opting out. It is an opting in - a participation in Being itself. Hence authentic freedom can never be attained by turning away from God. Such a choice would ultimately disregard the very truth we need in order to understand ourselves. A particular responsibility therefore for each of you, and your colleagues, is to evoke among the young the desire for the act of faith, encouraging them to commit themselves to the ecclesial life that follows from this belief.

In what way cannot Catholic colleges and universities be made to uphold Catholic values? In what way is such “new age stuff”?

Sorry, I misread the last part of your reply. But still, why can’t they uphold Catholic values?

They “could” uphold our values, but it would perhaps be difficult to force them to do so. The only remedy I can think of is the bishop of their diocese either stripping them of their “Catholic” status, or circulating the news that they are effectively not a Catholic institution.

God bless our wonderful Pope Benedict:thumbsup:

Its sad though, that he even needed to address this issue in the first place. How hard is it to follow the teachings of Jesus and His Church and pass this on to the next generation:rolleyes:

As Catholics, we need to support educational institutions that teach and practice our great Faith and let the rest of the so-called “Catholic” institutions know why we don’t support them.

Why should we pay for our children to learn lies?

I for one would love to see this. If one claims to be Catholic, then let them be TRULY CATHOLIC.
Prayers & blessings
