This comment shows what is wrong with people with this mindset.

The Mass is for the community, not the priest. If the community perfers the normative Missal of the Roman Catholic Church then who is the priest to tell them no and to celebrate the “Tridentine” Mass?

As far as I know, any priest may celebrate the “Old” Mass privately if he wishes, the Indult is for public celebration.
Easy for you to say. Your Litugy hasn’t been been changed around (quite literally) as ours has. I don’t think that your opinion would be the same if your Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom had been changed to the Divine Litrurgy of Paul VI, or John Paul II.

IF His Holiness does it, it’s only because he’s and The bishops of the SSPX are on the road to a full reconciliation (or at least that’s my hope).

I can only say that this is a great thing. The SSPX has been on the frontlines in the fight for Tradition without a whole lot of support.

A reconciliation with the SSPX would undoubtedly be a great thing for the Church.
Yes, it would be a great thing but it the SSPX has to submit to the Church, not vice versa.

As for the universal indult, I hope and pray it happens. I love the indult mass.

Pope Benedict XVI (bio - news) will take action soon to allow all Catholic priests to celebrate the Latin Mass, a Cambridge historian has predicted.
Hate to break the news, but this guys predicts this, there is no substantiation.

Good news but I am not sure about how it will be implemented. The bishops could still forbid the diocisan priests from saying it in their “territories”.
Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought a “universal” indult is an indult that a bishop can not override in his diocese.

Very good point. It’s mere speculation that B16 will grant the indult. I wouldn’t get too excited until some solid proof becomes available.

Probably not going to happen. Such a move would be seen as caving to the demands of the arrogant schismatics who have demanded such an indult. It is not good for Rome to appear to be bending toward the schismatics.

Don’t hold your breath.

The middle-aged pastor at my parish says he’s only presided once over a Latin Mass, and had trouble doing it because of his lack of familiarity with it.

There’s only one LatinMass in my city a week, and it’s hard to get to. I’d love to have it readily available, but who will preside over it?

BUT…there are many good and faithful Catholics who fervently want this (I hope, by God’s Grace, to always attend the Mass of Paul VI, in the vernacular, so this isn’t about me). AND Pope Benedict probably wouldn’t have to resort to this if A) the Indult had been applied with as much generosity as the old Holy Father desired and B) some of our priests and our bishops hadn’t allowed the Mass of Paul VI to become such a hodge-podge affair in some places (my vehement objection and arguments have always been against those who see the Mass of Paul VI as defective in and of itself, not those who object to abuses foisted upon that Mass). I would respectfully suggest that some of the bishops who resent this might have only themselves to blame.

This is of course a Prediction, not an actual report of what will happen.

Certainly it could happen, Pope Benedict could give an universal indult for a Latin mass, but the priests would still have to know how to say the mass, the boys and girls would still need to know how to serve the mass, and the people would still have to want to hear that particular mass.

May God help us. Women are not allowed to serve the TLM, or even be in the Sanctuary to perform any liturgical function. Most of us who have left our parishes to attend the Indult Mass have left for THAT VERY REASON.

If the Pope does grant the universal indult no Bishop can forbid any priest from celebrating the TLM, even a Diocesean priest. That is the stipulation. And if you use the Liturgical Books of 1962 you cannot have the innovations that followed after 1962.

I dissagree. There is already a schism in the Church and it is NOT between the Catholic Church and the SSPX. Liberals have already threatened a rebellion if the Pope grants the universal indult.

I said this early in the thread
THIS ARTICLE IS PURE SPECULATION
GOOD GRIEF…

I think your confusing the TLM with the full range of pre-V2 disciplines.

Under the current disciplines, bishops and even the parish priest can bar girls from altar service. But they can also allow it.

Just because a priest exercises his right to say Latin mass, doesn’t necessarily mean that he will implement all of the old disciplines. I would think that a priest that allows altar girls now, would also allow them if he decided to say Latin mass as well.

Although I agree it would not be good to apprear to cave to the schismatics, that is not the point. If it is best for the Church to do it, they should.

I don’t “always” agree with everything you post… but I do with this one…👍

I don’t think so. The current indult is clear that you cannot intermix the changes made to the liturgy after 1962. All that followed 1962, including the modifications made to the TLM before 1970 are not allowed. This is for a reason. If you allow altar girls and any new liturgical disciplines made after 1962 then you lose most of the reason why the indult will be granted.

wait wait wait, I got it, this is just a blind so we don’t see the ex cathedra statement restoring the TLM and banning the NO.

sorry I had to go there 👍

I am not an arrogant schismatic…I would very much support a universal Indult…I attend an Indult TLM nearly every weekend…there is no reason why other Nostalgic Catholics, such as myself, should be denied the beauty, reverence, and respect I witness every Sunday at Mass.
