=greenpatrick125;7714573]I think this type of preaching is the best. IMO
Love your NAME Brother!

I read in an Editorial From “*** Homiletic Pastoral Review Magazine” *** by Father James Baker S.J. … that he is of the opinion that post Vatican II homilies are essentially different in character than pre- Vatican II homilies.

This is a paraphrase of his comments; to which I find agreement.

Nowadays homilies typically are reflections on the Bible message. Not in itself bad; but lacking perhaps; the need to be teaching what we believe and why we ought to believe it.

[Inserting IMO] … The lack of widespread belief in the Real Presence; is at the root of the current Exodus from the CC [certainly NOT the only reason] but a chief cause of it. …And the absolute need for the sacrament of Confession…. PJM

Pre-Vatican II homilies often spoke of and explained Doctrines and Dogma’s. Thus there was a greater certitude of faith; and as a consequence, greater fidelity. Fewer people leaving the Church as they had a better understanding of what it means to be Catholic; and why we are Catholic.

Certainly Bible instruction is essential; but ought it be at the expease of the more difficult topics to teach… I think not …

God Bless,
Pat
