You’re the one, not I, doing the inappropriate judging here. I am relaying to you FACTS which those others (Yes, They) have admitted to me, individually and in groups, as to what motivates their habits.

There’s no “judging” on my part going on, but obviously plenty of yours going on.

And several of us have in fact talked about our own habits & the changes we have decided upon, in several posts here, but I guess you missed all those posts, too. (Wait: I guess you chose also not to read THOSE. )

You have missed the messages we have all been relating.

I’ll let you examine your conscience for accusing me in violation of charity, while I get on with my day.

Judge not that ye not be judged. You have no idea of their heart. Let God do that. This proclamation is for us - us - me privately. As a ressult of it, I realized I am overly connected to things (a violation of the 1st commandment). But I can not nor I am to judge others. I can tell you when one buys stuff, others get paid and proverty is less likely.

Hamlet, my heavens, are you captive to the erroneous interpretation of that oft quoted but little understood passage?

There is a difference between a judgment of heart and an observation. Most of us interact with people who simply do not have any concept that not everyone has the same privileges and creature comforts. I think the issue is how to tactfully encourage those living in a bubble to step outside and think of their neighbor.

Unfortunately our country has become less family/community oriented. I was just talking to a friend at our Parish where we are just starting a KoC chapter. He mentioned that in the past few decades we see the service organizations and service related charities become less relevant and membership ranks decline.

When called upon, Americans and particularly those of faith are incredibly charitable and compassionate. How do we get them out of their bubble?

A question might be, how do we increase awareness of the cult of money/comfort/ hedonism, and how consuming, literally, that is?

I do think that the speed of everyday living, while not the cause, is a contributing factor in preventing awareness. Valuing time instead of “things,” by practicing that choice, is a way of witnessing to priorities. Part of that is indeed unplugging (she says as she sits at her computer ). Not necessarily months at a time, but as parents, hours at a time would be a good example for our children. And taking even more “vacations” from electronics on weekends, and instead spending normal time with others, with self, with nature, is one way to re-prioritize.

Well…that’s me told ! :-D. I best switch off my phone …after this. Moderation in all things is a very good rule. Fasting and prayer are salutary too!
