When I am down, confusion gets the strongest for me … in trying to do some reading last night, I found an article that stated, that some people think that Pope John Paul 2 should be considered an anti pope because of some action he has taken. I.e. allowing president Clinton to have Communion, kissing the Koran … what do you think? I saw no fault with him but what do I know?

Personal actions, good or bad, do not make one a pope. He was duly elected by his brother cardinals and installed in the Chair of Peter. That is what made him pope, and nothing else.

I’ve also heard such assertions before, and I recall threads here on CAF on those very issues here several months back.

People become confused, especially when the pope does something they don’t understand, so I think such discussions can be revealing about the essence of Catholicism. Some, like you, ask about it. Others go ahead and denounce things they don’t understand because they evidently consider themselves more Catholic than the pope – these are the people you are reading about.
