L Leopard Guest Sep 6, 2007 #2 There have been six Conventual Franciscan popes: Nicholas IV, Alexander V, Sixtus IV, Julius II, Sixtus V, and Clement XIV. St Pius V was a Dominican. He continued to wear his white religious habit as pope. From that time on the pope has traditionally worn white.
