The promotion of the conservative pastor sparked an outcry among Catholics who warned it could prompt people to leave the church.
ORF quotes the 54-year-old Wagner as saying: “Regarding the fierce criticism, I am praying and after consulting the diocesan bishop I have decided to ask the Holy Father in Rome to take back my promotion as auxiliary bishop.”
So, when American fundamentalists like Jerry Falwell and John Hagee said the same thing that Hurricane Katrina was God’s judgement on New Orleans did you agree with them too?New Orleans was and perhaps still is one of the Voodoo capitals of the world.
How do you know he ‘knows nothing about New Orleans’? How do you know the extent of this priest’s knowledge?
Give me a break! The Harry Potter books are nothing less than Children’s fantasy books and requires a great deal of imagination to make them into anything more. New Orleans is a voodoo capital of the world? Well, maybe for tourists. But even if it is, do you also think Hurricane Katrina was a punishment inflicted on the city for its sinfulness? What about the the just Catholics who live in that city and watched their churches flooded and destoyed? Were they being punished for living in a major Catholic city of the United States? How do I know the good priest knows nothing about New Orleans? If he had lived in New Orleans and met the good Christians of that city, if he had known of the good and holy work being done by Catholic hospitals and schools and churches in that city, if he knew anything about the hard working clergy and sisters and faithful laity of that city, he could never have made the statement about the city which he in fact made. The Harry Potter books contain material from actual spells and the names of actual demons.

"I know that you live where Satan's throne is, and yet you hold fast to my name and have not denied your faith in me, not even in the days of Antipas, my faithful witness, who was martyred among you, where Satan lives.
Yet I have a few things against you. You have some people there who hold to the teaching of Balaam, who instructed Balak to put a stumbling block before the Israelites: to eat food sacrificed to idols and to play the harlot.
Likewise, you also have some people who hold to the teaching of (the) Nicolaitans.
**Therefore, repent. Otherwise, I will come to you quickly and wage war against them with the sword of my mouth.**
"To the angel of the church in Thyatira, write this: " 'The Son of God, whose eyes are like a fiery flame and whose feet are like polished brass, says this:
"I know your works, your love, faith, service, and endurance, and that your last works are greater than the first.
Yet I hold this against you, that you tolerate the woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, who teaches and misleads my servants to play the harlot and to eat food sacrificed to idols.
I have given her time to repent, but she refuses to repent of her harlotry.
So I will cast her on a sickbed and plunge those who commit adultery with her into intense suffering unless they repent of her works.

So because New Orleans was home to Marie Laveaux who made a living selling Voodoo potionsand spells, who by the way was a devout catholic, in the 19th century and was a port for Hatian slaves it is a voodoo capital? Catholicism was and is ingrained into the culture of the city. So much so that even protestants climb the steps on their knees praying the stations ot the cross at the shrine of St. Jude on Good Friday, and where 90%of the population catholic and non catholic receiv ashes on Ash wednesday. But because so many righteous people feel better saying that God punished the city of New Orleans, it makes the 2000 lives lost, or the 105,000 homes destroyed( of which one was mine), or the thousands that are still displaced or striggling to rebuilt seem just. Wouldn’t it be ironic if God was using New Orleans to get peoples attention to pray and worship him and not as a punishment. While you so gladly pointed out that bars and a couple of abortin clinics were destroyed, so were 105,000 house destroyed and 200,000+ damaged.Oh by the way so were 100’s of churches, of which mine was one. But through the grace of God I and thousands like me survived and rebuilt my home, life, and most importantly church. So while rejoicing at punishment, stop and pray that you’ll never experience a Katrina, I prayed that the didn’t experience a Gustaf in Gavleston. But that’s right, it’s not New Orleans, so they we not punished, just the victims of tragedy. Remember, "judge not leat ye be judged. The Harry Potter books contain material from actual spells and the names of actual demons.

While I cannot comment on the other issues noted, I do believe that there certainly ARE liberals within the Church and without who want Benedict XVI to be marginalized. You had the same issue with JPII. There are people who want gay marriage, women’s ordination, pro abortion, and a host of other pet issues to be accepted by the Church. There are others who want a stance that reflects prevailing liberal views that all ways lead to God and all will get to heaven (making little point in believing in anything). When Benedict or any other leader does or says anything contrary people get ticked. The Evil One is doing all he can to prevent Benedict XVI from fighting liberalism, dissent, and heresy in the Church. That is why we must all pray unceasingly for the Holy Father and Holy Mother Church.
