Pope's comment ordination of gay people

I think this is the biggest problem I have with homosexuals right here.

The idea of being public with their sexual preferences is just giving the people too much information.

I feel that a homosexual is invading my space with this private information that I have no business knowing. This information should only be shared on a need to know basis.

I understand what you are saying. And from a Catholic persepctive, I can empathize.
However, if we look at it from teh perspective of the gay person- the heterosexual life is celebrated, in every way, every day. It must be very difficult to be reminded daily that many segmets of society look at you as disordered, or mentally ill.

Let me think how to answer. I realize that the church gets criticized by so many people. And I agree with you about those who “disagree” with Church teachings.
but any thought of me criticizing the church even in minor ways; eg; the church needs to find ways to bring lost Catholics back, makes me feel guilty.

Anyone that firmly believes Church teachings on homosexuality and / or same sex “blessings” or “marriage” hates gay people.

Should we not celebrate things that are good - marriage and family? Not only are they morally good for the individuals, they are good for society as a whole.

Did I say we shouldn’t?
What I said is I can understand how some gay people can see this as them as being “less than”, just because they are gay.

Sorry, I’m not a fan of the “everyone gets a trophy” mentality. We should celebrate the good, and be happy for those who do good.

And I see zero sarcasm in this comment. In fact, I see this as part of the problem why so many people think the Church is homophobic.

I can firmly believe in the teachings of the Church and still empathize with and support those who are gay, whether they are Catholic or not.

What they should do in this case is try to understand the why the church is doing this. Not just dismiss it because their feelings are hurt.

You are right to ask the Church and Christians in general should be more welcoming, loving and understanding to Gay individuals. This also works both ways. Gay people should also welcome Love and try to understand what the Church is really saying and teaches.

As a function of their sexual orientation, no. As a person, absolutely!

I can also firmly believe in the teachings of the Church and still empathize with and support those who are gay, whether they are Catholic or not. I do not see anyone here claiming otherwise!

Couldn’t this be said for anyone who sins?
I know many Catholics who use ABC and see nothing at all wrong with it.
I don’t see thread after thread talking about them and their evil ways and how they destroy the Church with their agendas.

The whole thread is about not allowing gay men to be ordained.
Some have even said gay people have no place in the Church.
Are we on the same thread?

But why do we use sexual orientation as a descriptor to qualify how we treat someone?

I don’t. How would I know someone’s orientation unless they told me?

Yes that certainly could be said.
I know many also and try to help them understand the evils of contraceptives. Their is nothing stopping anyone from doing such a thread. Contraception is certainly not a hot button like this, probably because not many openly argue about what the church teaches on it. As this is a news forum we typically tak about news stories. You may find more discussion on Contraceptives in the moral theology forumn. I imagine if the pope said somthing about ABC we might see it here!
