Considering that what the new cathechism proclaims about, say, masturbation, is a load of relativistic rubbish, I must be schismatic.
The Catechism states that it’s equal in gravity to sodomy, adultery, and fornication. How is that “relativistic?”
I thank the Lord everyday I have anonymous internet buddies to point out my own schism-ness. 👍
Hey, we’re just happy to help. 😃

Outward appearance is all that counts?

I left the church at the age of 16 when mass was still in latin. I came back to the church at 32 because it was a liturgy for the people of God, not the historians.

Hate to break it to you amoxoxoma—The Mass was about our worship to God then–and it still is now

Uh huh.

**“To form an equitable judgment about the subjects’ moral responsibility and to guide pastoral action, one must take into account the affective immaturity, force of acquired habit, conditions of anxiety, or other psychological or social factors that lessen or even extenuate moral culpability.”

**In other words, if you are simply powerless to stop touching yourself, it’s okay. Force of acquired habit, after all. Probably not even a venial sin.

And then there’s the nonsense new catechism spews about the death penalty…

I stand by my comments about the 2865 test. The Catechism does define the Catholic faith. If that is not harsh enough for some, if it does not hold a 12 year old as responsible for certain behavior as an adult, and that ultimately leads them to disagree, then, like I said, it is time to review things.

It is not just people who think sodomy is good who can fail to be in full communion with the Church. An attitude that is too harsh and uncompassionate can also lead someone away from full communion with the Church.

But this is way off topic. If you want to continue this, please start a thread.

Oh, you are going to declare me schismatic and then forbid any further discussion of the issue? Sadly, you and your highlighters have neither the power to declare schism nor to stop discussion.

You brought up new catechism. I pointed out one of its flaws, namely relativism. “It is not charity to confirm someone in their sin” as someone wiser than I once said.

With respect, sir, no one has stated or implied anything about your personal state of communion with the Catholic Church.

In addition, I find your aggressive, argumentative and mocking style is counter-productive to any real conversation. You falsely accused me of “selective quoting” yet it is you who provide an unattributed quote as "proof text.

Beyond this I will say more and I will refrain from responding to any more of you comments.

The original topic of this thread was supposed to be the concern of the French clergy about the Latin mass. Everything but that has been discussed here and, of late, has turned into too many uncharitable personal attacks. The thread is now closed.

Any or all of these discussions may be continued by starting threads in the appropriate forums or by joining discussions already in progress on those forums.
