Popes paying respects to other religions

I visited a radical website that purports to be Catholic, and it blasts all recent Popes as “anti-popes” and even calls John Paul II the antichrist. It shows a picture of him kissing the Koran. It talks about Pope Benedict saying he can understand how the Jews could read the scriptures as not necessarily leading to Jesus. Now, this website in question is rather extreme, but those instances are indeed troubling. I do not want the Pope kissing the Koran. How do we accept and justify this, given our belief in one, holy and apostolic Church?
