I always speculated that wearing white, associated with the white dove of the Holy Spirit, translated into red shoes because white doves have red feet. I know, I know. :whacky:Here is something I just found…
Why Does the Pope Have Red Shoes?, a slim volume devoted to answering children’s questions, Monsignor Georg Ganswein, the Pope’s private secretary, explained the significance of the red accessories: Red is the colour of martyrdom and the pope is the successor of the martyred St. Peter, and also, he wrote, “red is the colour of burning love, the colour of the fire of the Spirit.”
