Pope’s Visit To Rome Synagogue ‘Acknowledged The Validity Of Judaism And Affirmed The Catholic-Jewish Relationship’
New York, NY, January 19, 2010 … The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) said that the visit to the Rome Synagogue by Pope Benedict XVI “acknowledged the validity of Judaism and affirmed the Catholic-Jewish relationship.”
Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director, issued the following statement:
Pope Benedict acknowledged the validity of Judaism and affirmed the Catholic-Jewish relationship by his visit to Rome’s main synagogue. Like his predecessor Pope John Paul II, whose 1986 visit to the same Rome Synagogue was a message to the Christian world that Judaism was not superseded by Christianity and is a living dynamic religion with its own continued vitality and sacred purpose to do God’s will, Benedict sent the same message to prelates, priests and those in the pews.
Pope Benedict has institutionalized for his and future papacies the fact of mutual respect by making it clear that the Jewish people are the people of God’s Covenant through Moses. The Pope’s words cannot but help to bring greater understanding, respect and dialogue to our two connected faiths.
While there remains a cloud over the relationship on issues relating to the Holocaust, there is no doubt that his visit to the synagogue confirms the importance of the Catholic-Jewish relationship and that we will continue to dialogue with mutual respect.
Is the Pope denying the faith, or is ADL lying? I watched the Pope’s speech live, and I don’t recall him saying any of this, but what he said could certainly be interpreted this way.

Why does it seem like the Catholic church is being emotionally blackmailed into denying their faith?

Do you agree or disagree with this quote: “Not to oppose error is to approve it, and not to defend truth is to suppress it, and indeed to neglect to confound evil men when we can do it, is no less a sin than to encourage them.” - Pope Felix III

I pray for everyone’s conversion including mine…none of us are up to snuff if you ask me

In Romans St. Paul clearly states that the Jews do not agree with Christians, but are still chosen because God does not break promises. But, it is right to pray that Jews will some day recognize Jesus as the messiah.

Yes, it is right to pray, it is also right not to feed Jewish delusions by implying (or flat out stating) that Jews have a valid covenant.

They don’t. And if the Pope is saying that they do, then the Pope has fallen into heresy. It’s not his job to coddle Jews, his job is to preach Christ and not be ashamed to do so.

You all might find this circus of denying the truth of Christ as a “step towards healing”, but it looks to me like the cock is about to crow from Peter denying Christ 3x to Jews.

Would you rather have a Pope that is loved by Jews because he reinforces their delusions? Or would you rather have a Pope that is willing to be crucified upside down for the truth of Christ?

This “healing through dialog” nonsense is just code for introducing heresy.

The Jews HATE the Gospel, and they won’t stop with their guilt-trips until we’re all groveling at their feet begging for their forgiveness for the Church ever preaching Christ.

For cripes sake, how many apologies do they want? What business is it of theirs who the church canonizes or what prayers the church prays, or what our liturgy is like? Do you not understand that the Jews are manipulating the church??? Do you not understand that this PC convoluted language the Church has become so fond of is confusing people into thinking that the Church endorses relativism and dual-covenant theology??? Do you not understand this confusion for the sake of “public opinion” will send people to hell???

The pope isn’t nor ever has been a heretic and this posting has been reported…You are new here and I think you need to read the posting rules

Let me give you an example on why he has publicly admitted he was and is.

1Based on Scripture and Tradition, the Catholic Church teaches infallibly that it is necessary for salvation to believe in Jesus Christ and the Catholic Faith.

John 8:23-24-“… for if you believe not that I am He, you shall die in your sin.”

Pope Eugene IV, Council of Florence, “Cantate Domino,” 1441, ex cathedra: “The Holy Roman Church firmly believes, professes and preaches that all those who are outside the Catholic Church, not only pagans but also Jews or heretics and schismatics, cannot share in eternal life and will go into the everlasting fire which was prepared for the devil and his angels, unless they are joined to the Church before the end of their lives…

In 2001, however, the Pontifical Biblical Commission released a book entitled The Jewish People and Their Sacred Scriptures in the Christian Bible. This book rejects the dogma that the Old Covenant has ceased. It teaches that the Old Covenant is still valid, and that the Jews’ wait for the Coming of the Messiah (which was part of the Old Covenant) is also still valid. It teaches that Jesus doesn’t have to be seen as the prophesied Messiah; it is possible to see Him, as the Jews do, as not the Messiah and not the Son of God.

And who wrote that book none other than Joseph ratzinger or benidict XVI

You have also been reported…This is a forum loyal to the magesterium and to the papacy

“Extra Ecclesiam nulla salus” is a nuanced and widely misunderstood dogma - as the Feeneyite schism, inter alia, amply demonstrated.

All of us need on-going conversion. No one said this better than St. Benedict in his rule. It is one thing to believe that God keeps his covenants and another to pretend that we have done our share.

Old testament 10 comandments- you shall not. BUT if you read on- take care of widows and orphans, be kind to the stranger in your midst, be kind to the poor.

Old testament says what Jesus says- Jews of descent from Abraham have the covenant and the law of Moses (see above) .

Jesus came to bring salvation to the world-“salvation comes from the Jews”-he did not change the law as we think of it - 10 commandments- but to fulfill the law and bring it to all peoples.

As far as I can determine everything that Jesus speaks about theologically is contained in the Old Testament. He uses his teachings and parables to bring both the Jews and then the Gentiles back to the original “law” which is the law of love.

Love God with all your heart and soul and mind and love your neighbor as yourself.

God Bless you all.

Bob

The bold is mine. That’s because the OT is about Jesus.

It seems to me that the rabbinical thrust should be more concerned with the grave sins of its own flock in modernity than in criticism of the Roman Catholic Church. Our church has always expressed solidarity with all victims of oppression. If one group requires more than that, well, so be it. Our faith stands with ALL those unjustly persecuted. It is the blood of our own martyrs to which we as Christians owe our own edification. We understand suffering. No further lectures on the topic are required. The Passion of our God has enlightened us all. The Roman Catholic Church stands for mercy, love and empathy. Anything which suggests a contrary viewpoint has an ulterior agenda.

Let’s slow down here. We are here to learn from the Holy Father how to speak to Jews, not to offend them or point the finger at them. That’s not what the popes have done nor what they want us to do. The title of the thread says exactly what the Church wants Catholics to say and do, to acknolwedge the validity of Judaism and to affirm the Catholic-Jewish relationship.

The position here is that we find ways of talking to our Jewish brothers and sisters to answer their questions and concerns, clarify misconceptions and promote further dialogue and cooperation between the two faiths, especially in the area of the dignity of human life and the unborn. The life of the unborn and the dignity of human beings between conception and death is the priority for the Catholic Church right now. It is the greatest threat to the Gospel. Orthodox Judaism has a lot to bring to the table in that arena. They too are struggling, as are we, with the invasion of secularism.

Well, isn’t that he point of Chapter 11? he has spread the Gospel among the nations hoping to excite the jealousy of the Jews so they will reconsider their rejection of Jesus.
