Popes wearing Eastern Vestments?

Anyone have any pictures of the current or past popes wearing Eastern Vestments? I can share a few.

I’m surprised no one has put this photo up, because it’s kind of famous. Here is Bl. John XXIII participating in an Eastern liturgy during the II Vatican Council. It seems that he is wearing the sakkos beneath the fanon and pallium, cuffs over his alb, and he is holding the dikirion and trikirion proper to an Eastern bishop for blessing.

Pope Kiril is the fictional Ukrainian Byzantine Catholic Pope from The Shoes of the Fisherman,
but I I thought it appropriate to include what he wore.

On April 3, 2005, the day after Pope John Paul II fell asleep in the Lord, a Divine Liturgy was offered for the repose of his soul with Bishop Miguel Mykycej, eparch of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Santa María del Patrocinio in Buenos Aires, and Cardinal Archbishop Jorge Maria Bergolglio of Buenos Aires concelebrating.

The most striking feature is the fact that he is wearing the Eastern mantle, which is strictly speaking not for concelebration but rather for public prayer, including attending in choir. Furthermore, if he were concelebrating and wearing Eastern vestments (I do not know if faculties would be extended to him as Ordinary of the Eastern-rite Faithful), there seems to be some omissions - I do not see a sakkos or even a phelonion, much less a chasuble. However, he is wearing the epitrachelion, omophorion and mitre (although western in form), which would be worn if he were concelebrating.

On the other hand, it could be possible that he was not really concelebrating but simply attending in choir. The Eastern mantle would make sense, and the epitrachelion could be passed off as simply part of the recent ‘custom’ of Latin clergy wearing their stole while attending in choir, since it is a similar vestment. However, it does not explain the use of other liturgical vestments like the omophorion and mitre.

I’m afraid the photos do confuse me. I hope somebody else could shed some light on this. :yukonjoe:

No images of Pope Emeritus BXVI wearing Eastern Vestments, but some pictures of him receiving a Byzantine paterissa (crosier) and sakkos from Melkite Patriarch Gregory III. Also a picture of BXVI blessing the people with the dikirion and trikirion (2- and 3-branched candlesticks), as well as a picture of him processing out carrying the paterissa.
