Be very cautious talking to JWs. They use a mistranslated Bible and slant discussions toward their heresies. In the United States, being a JW is highly corrolated with lack of education and poverty. Never trust a faith that does not want you to learn.

Others have touched on the other questions. I would add that if we are banned from calling anyone father on earth, why did Paul do it, Peter do it and Stephen do it as well? They knew better, right? And what do you call the man by whom your mother got pregnant with you?

That verse is the commissioning… not the title. Jesus gives Peter the keys to the kingdom (authority in his steed) and he also told him he had the power to bind and loose… which he (with his authority) shared with the other apostles.

The term pope is the affectionate term for Father in Latin… that is why we call the pope the pope.
do u know if anyone in the new testament calls Peter father?

Hello…I read this and do not care to continue the discussion on your misunderstanding of the Pope…as well I’m not Catholic and I’ll let them defend their beliefs on the Pope.

That being said…I was a teenager not that long ago…and had my faith challenaged by a few well…different people with a varied background and religious leanings.

I would encourage you to start with prayer. Ask God to help you in your heart to seek him and find his truth. He said that if you seek him you will find him.

Then my suggestion would be to start with the basics…read your bible…and read the Catecisims.

I would read on a daily basis a few of the basic tenants of the Catholic Faith and the reasoning the church gives for them and the scriptures used to base that idea on…especially on any basics of faith and things this JW might be challengaging your thinking on.

I would also encourage you to read a Psalm…read where David talks to God and begins to ask God to reveal the secrets of the word to him…not as if it was a secret Code…but that when you read the scriptures with promises from God…it only helps to encourage and grow your faith.

I encourage you to question and don’t be afraid to research…but to make sure your sources are simply put…the first of the first…the scriptures and church teachings. By that’s just my two cents…may God be with you and guide you and protect you from any confusion on the truth of the Father that loves you!

Well, Peter does call someone his son, which would imply he’s some kind of father.

“She who is at Babylon, who is likewise chosen, sends you greetings; and so does my son Mark” (1 Pet. 5:13)

Don’t you do any research on your Catholic faith? Catholics know why we have a pope, and we don’t see him as a God. (And please capitalize the word God.). I could be wrong, but this post sounds a lot like a Protestant in disguise But I’ll be willing to hear what other Catholics here say to this “Catholic” op.

Just a thing about the capitalizing so the first poster should under stand what You mean, the first line i highlighted shouldnt be capital G because there he is talking about any kind of god, but the second highlight must be capital g because there he is reffering to the One True God

🙂
