I have noticed that some among our Moslem board members want to justify the necessity of allowing a man to have mulitple wives. Why since there are more women than men, then these poor leftover females shouldn’t be deprived of marriage to a man.
Strange I thought to myself, would Allah in his infinite wisdom have shortchanged one of the genders that he was smart enough to have created in total equality? So I did a bit of scanning the statistics and Googled this bit of information: U. N. world data puts the numbers at 98.6 women to 100 men through out the world. Ah, I felt that was too general so I ran the U. S. population break down for 2002 and found the following rates for the percent of males per 100 females as follows: ages 18-24 - 100.1% (males females)
25-29 - 99.9 %
30-34 - 98.1 %
34-44 - 97.2 %
45-54 - 95.6 %
55-64 - 91.6 %
Notice that God provided a near perfect match up until the age of 30 which for most of us westerners is the primary age of marriage. The real shift only becomes pronounced from about the age of 45 on up. This leads me to ask that since most men would be more interested in marriage to a women below the age of 45, does that mean that many Moslem men would rather marry a woman who was 45 or older so that these poor women could find a mate? Notice that the real rate of loss of equality is due to the dying off of the male population with the coming of middle age and older and not an initial or even early disparity due to a lack of adequate births. Anyway, I learned many years ago to never let a few inconvient facts get in the way of a great story or belief.
