I don’t know, you would do better to bring your question to the Ask an Apologist forum, but I would consider pork rinds ‘meat’ enough.

They are meat. Coming from a Southern country family, I’ve had them all my life, but I would not touch them on a Friday during this holy season.

Do the processed pork rind snacks actually have meat? Asking as an ignorant Canadian. 🙂

Skin is flesh.

Go for some potato chips instead on Fridays. Better yet, fresh carrot and celery sticks.

Short answer is - Yes…Pork rinds are the flesh of a warm blooded animal…not permitted on days of abstinence

My view on these matters is simple…We are talking about one day per week. If in doubt - don’t eat it. It will give you something to look forward to tomorrow…😛

Well! Not that it should be consumed on a Friday, but at least there is an actual pork product in the bag. I always assumed it was merely synthetic (pork flavoured) ingredients.

I’m a vegetarian and I don’t eat pork rinds (they’re pork)…just sayin’

To be completely candid…It wouldn’t surprise me if there were such a product…

Do pork rinds break the Lenten meat abstinence?
Modern Catholic Dictionary:

MEAT. The flesh of animals and birds eaten by human beings, as understood in Church law. Its prohibition on days of abstinence and fast has a spiritual value, going back to the Old Testament and practiced since apostolic times. “The law of abstinence forbids the use of meat, but not of eggs, the products of milk or condiments made of animal fat” (Pope Paul VI, Paenitemini, Norm III, 1).

I always assumed it was merely synthetic (pork flavoured) ingredients.
A non-pork version is available. Its a bit late in the season, but for next year the OP may want to consider Chicharron Vegetal, which are produced by Ricos Tostaditos
product description:
They have all the great taste of pork rinds, but a fraction of the calories. They are imitation pork rinds which cannot be duplicated.

I haven’t seen the ingredient list and can’t vouch they are meat free, so an email to the company before ordering might be a good idea. :o
