I was taking a quiz on an app on my iPhone for Catholics and one of the questions was can we eat pork. I ticked yes and it was wrong.
Can Catholics eat pork?
Can Catholics eat pork?
More likely a very poor app. Sounds like they are mixing some O.T. directives in there. We used to abstain from meat on Fridays which included meat broths. Yet, I know a lot of Catholics who thought we could use beef or chicken broth in soups. Or better yet, not beef, but chicken could be used because it was “not meat”. Misinformation abounds!many thanks for your reply.
There was another question about pork and the answer was that you cannot eat beef if anything from a pig is cooked with it. I am deleting the app now as there was other worrying things with it.
Maybe it could be a brain washing trick?
Deuteronomy 14:8 says you are not to eat pork, isn’t that correct?I was taking a quiz on an app on my iPhone for Catholics and one of the questions was can we eat pork. I ticked yes and it was wrong.

The Old Testament is much more than laws. The OT rules on eating, washing, etc. are primarily in Leviticus - which we do not read everyday. Or at least I hope not, it’s a very dry book.So would the old testament for the most part not be applicable to Catholics and why do we read from it every single day if it was intended for the Jewish people?
I found it on itunes. There is nothing in the description that seems to indicate it is a Catholic ap. although it does have Catholicism as one of its “quiz” categories. The developers other products are not religious at all.Its called “bible quiz” by amyfaulkner.yola.com/ the link does not work but you can get it on the app store.
So should we just ignore things in books like Leviticus and Deuteronomy - or just some parts? The Old Testament is much more than laws. The OT rules on eating, washing, etc. are primarily in Leviticus - which we do not read everyday. Or at least I hope not, it’s a very dry book.
The parts of the OT that we focus on in Mass, for example, are those that teach us about Salvation History and which “set the stage” so to speak for the coming of Jesus. Other parts of the OT focus on the history or the Israelites, which wasn’t always virtuous. We read those parts to learn from thier mistakes and to see how God is just but ever-merciful.
We dont’ “ignore” any of it, we just have to look at the Bible as a whole. With regards to pork and the other laws about what is clean or unclean, the NT specifially says these no longer apply. There is a historical context to parts of the OT law as well that doesn’t apply today. So should we just ignore things in books like Leviticus and Deuteronomy - or just some parts?

Not to get off topic, but meat broth actual is acceptable on Fridays. forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=103680We used to abstain from meat on Fridays which included meat broths. Yet, I know a lot of Catholics who thought we could use beef or chicken broth in soups.
