Porn and masturbation as self-inflicted sexual abuse

I’ve been there. I’ve confessed my sins and repented, but the stains and memories are still there. The hyper-sexual desires duped me. Repress this strong desire, and it pops up as other maladaptive behaviors. Only with God’s grace can we overcome such perversions!
 
Sexual abuse is a bad thing. I would say it is a mis-definition, though, to say that masturbation and the consumption of porn are sexual abuse. There is no point in mis-defining something.

Those scars which remain are the scars of sin.
 
Imo, using terms like perversion and self abuse about masturbation does more harm then good. No pun intended, but as a teen grows older it becomes very natural to discover and explore the changes in one’s body. And from around 13-20 that’s pretty much all young males at east want to do. But to be honest, it’s kind of the opposite of self abuse. 😃

Seems that St. Paul is saying that it would be a miss-use, which is abusive to the temple of God, the body.

Can you provide your definition of sexual abuse? Why are they sinful if they are not spiritually abusive? If a guy forces a woman into sex we call it sexual abuse, and all I’m saying is that if our strong sexual desire forces us into this sin, it’s sexual self-abuse.

It does not stop there, but other forms of sin, such as pride and excessive anger, are also self-abusive. I honestly do not see how anybody can say otherwise.

Julian of Norwich claims that the punishment for sin in the Hereafter will not be the flames of fire, but the guilt of having sinned.
 
This thread reminds me of satirical singer Roy Zimmerman’s song “To Be A Liberal”, in which the protagonist mentions “filing a frivolous sexual harassment suit / against myself / because I masturbated / against my will!” 😛

Definition of “sexual abuse” according to Wikipedia:
Sexual abuse, also referred to as molestation, is usually undesired sexual behavior by one person upon another.

The term “sexual abuse” is used in English to refer to abuse abused by one person upon another. Your temptations are not people.

To be clear, I’m not trying to minimize the injury; I’m just saying that it isn’t in accord with English to call it sexual abuse. There are other words to describe self-inflicted sexual sins that are more accurate.
 
masturbation was very commonly called self abuse for a long time. Ever seen Mad Men?

Sexual abuse generally implies a much worse sin, but I think that self abuse captures what you are going for.

According to that definition, bestiality is not sexual abuse, therefore it cannot be accurate.

Ouch! Wise lady was she… But OUCH!
 
Maybe a better term is self-indulgence. Porn is a different matter all together as it involves others.

Seems so little self respect and self control these days?
