There is a CNBC special that is on now as to porn. Does it effect your life? Harmful to view? For the guys, is it a cheap form or an alternative to arousal drugs such as Viagra?

Have you as a female become upset as to spouse’s interest in this? Have you had issues with your child viewing it?

It’s a guy thing I guess but I know many women go ballistic about it or at least become upset it exists and is so popular in our society. Some women don’t mind it. Some do. Just wondering if anyone had issues about it.
 
I answered “yes,” and the explanation is that they were theatrically-released adult films of social or/and legal value (i.e., heard before the Supreme Court of The United States) like “I Am Curious (Yellow),” “Deep Throat,” which pre-dated Watergate, and even John Waters’ movie “Pink Flamingos,” which is still deemed obscene in some U.S. states in 2009. So, if they were feature length: yes. They were already being mainstreamed into circulation before I was born.

It’s important to remember that pornography from the 1960’s/early 1970’s standards isn’t exactly “shocking” by today’s standards - it’s the equivalent of an “R” rating. I remember when I saw “Midnight Cowboy” (a.k.a. “The Only X-Rated Movie To Ever Win an Oscar”), and I was in disbelief that it wasn’t rated PG-13, because it really did seem like it was PG-13.

I think mainstream Hollywood movies like “Carnal Knowledge” and “Cruel Intentions” (“Dangerous Liasons” for teens), not to mention garbage like “Borat” and “Bruno,” are or/and were far more morally objectionable than pornography. **Wolves in sheep clothing sort of thing: Just because it’s not billed as “triple-xxx porno” doesn’t mean it’s not toxic, because it is. **
 
I know for a fact that porn is harful to marriage. It’s one of the key factors that tore apart my parents marriage. It is just as harmful as out right adultry. My father watched that smut, and still watches it. That God I have my own computor now.
People that watch that stuff just disgust me. They have a very perverse way of looking at sex.
 
I was unfortunately exposed to it at a very young age (3rd or 4th grade, don’t exactly remember), and struggled it for a long time. It pretty much almost ruined my life. I don’t think I need to point out the obvious reasons for why it’s sinful and damaging to watch it. All I can say is avoid it like the plague.
 
I have watched it in my younger days…but it always caused “difficulty” by doing so in that I started feeling “disatisfied” with my relationship/marriage. I found “dark thoughts” crowding my mind…I found that I wanted to “be in the movie” and not in my life. I’ve maybe in my 54 years watched four to five “porno movies”…and I was affected by it for weeks afterwards.

While I wasn’t tempted to go out and rent them…if they were available I wouldn’t refuse as I didn’t want to appear…“weak” “nerdy” “prudish” in front of my friends…after my child and wife died, I went off the “deep end”. I allowed those images and desires to rule my life for a short time…they left me drained and empty and stiffled my ability to grieve and “accept”. I “entered” a dark place where such things were available, that was approaching twenty five years ago…and my heart still “cringes” at the thought of such darkness.

I no longer care what my “peers” think…I know I am “weak”…I am “nerdy” to some…I don’t care if anyone thinks I am a “prude”…because in many ways, I am.

Porn does violence to the soul in ways we have no concept of…we become disatisfied with “who we are”…it dims the Light Within to such a degree we “forget” who we are…and when we “forget” who we are…we forget those things in our lives which made life good and whole…we forget “Love”.
 
I have watched porn both very little as a teen and then qite a bit as an adult married to my husband. It was with him that I watched it and I have come to hate it! I do believe that it can be very damaging to a marriage, especially when one becomes addicted to it. It leads to unnatural views of each other and of sexuality. It can warp a persons mind. I don’t believe that porn is what God had in mind when he meant for us to have a healthy sexual relationship with someone.
 
I dabbled in some Swedish and Dutch films of that nature when I was younger. Found them to be total **** and a waste of time.
 
As most teens years ago, we did not really see the porno films “smokers” they were called in those day, but in the military, i saw my first crude 8mm film at Summer Camp shown by the Sarge in charge in our barracks. Yes, I’d seen naked ladies in Playboy and Penthouse and read a couple of my brother’s Sexology books as to the medical aspects of it and how it worked. At age 18, I did not know what giving head meant (oral sex) did not not know it existed really and was turned off about the idea of anal sex, but these are very common acts today and rather disgusting to me. Not for me. Be careful out there no matter what your age be and always remember and never forget

Crew Cut Gunney. I was 18 and rather disgusted about it and watched it from as far away as I could. You had to watch it. Very ugly women, a mother and daugher act, in black and white. Must of been this man’s boyhood stash of smut and not the pretty ladies with a great body and angelic face as those are today. and were in Playboy and Penthouse not doing sexual things. These were hard core woman working for very little I’d guess to do what they did in the 60’s.

It was getting more freaky. But I suppose these are very common acts today and rather disgusting to me, however what two do with consent in private and enjoy is not my call to judge. Are you serious?? How can you claim to be a Catholic and not be sure of the Church’s position on condoms? Please do not refer to yourself as a Catholic if you are going to be going around giving people false and bad teachings. It does nothing but harm the Catholic faith.

All it took was a little sleazy comic book to systematically get me addicted and ruin my relationships with other women.

Seriously, avoid it at all costs. Prudish? Cowardly? Unmanly? More like being wise and brave by standing up to what is right.
 
It is one of the scourges of our Age. It exploits and degrades all in its sphere…except for the peddlers who line their pockets with gold and sneer at a culture so easily defiled. The porn industry has long been on record as being run by an overtly anti-Catholic cabal, which actively seeks to harm the Church by corrupting the faithful. That is a documentable, historical fact! So, knowing that, can there be any other perspective than that of a defensive posture against an open assault?
 
I used porn in the old, old, bad days before I found God, and I wish I hadn’t. It’s so hard to avoid it reminds me of people who try not to listen to rock music – it plays in the laundry and grocery store and at the office, right? How do you define listening to it under these circumstances? Porn is almost that unavoidable today. 😦 I turn my eyes away from it when it confronts me in a public place and I try not to visit people who will probably have it visible in their homes when company is over. 🤷 I long for a world where porn hides behind brown wrappings under the counter.
If I were married and my husband used porn I would consider it adultery and act accordingly.:mad:

I wonder why pornography sells so well? I mean, once you see one porn, you’ve seen it all. There’s really no cliffhanger or themes to keep you coming back on noels or movies or anything of that nature.

From what I’ve heard about modern porn that not necessarily true. My understanding is that there a lot of shock value in porn…especially internet porn. And I think a lot of people are now being attracted to the shock. People can do the most disgusting and degrading things beyond my imagination.

When I was in college, two guys (as a prank) changed the laptop wallpaper of their friend to a pornographic image. I didn’t see the image in question but I did see the guy came back, see the wallpeper, nearly fall out of his chair, and shout “Is that a fake arm?!”

Above is one of the most entertaining essays on pornography I’ve read. It’s by everybody’s favorite literary critic and semiotician, Umberto Eco. The essence of the essay is this:

If Gilbert, in order to rape Gilbertina, has to go from Lincoln Center to Sheridan Square, the film shows you Gilbert, in his car, throughout the whole journey, stoplight by stoplight.

Pornographic movies are full of people who climb into cars and drive for miles and miles, couples who waste incredible amounts of time signing in at hotel desks, gentlemen who spend many minutes in elevators before reaching their rooms, girls who sip various drinks and who fiddle interminably with laces and blouses before confessing to each other that they prefer Sappho to Don Juan. To put it simply, crudely, in porn movies, before you can see a healthy screw you have to put up with a documentary that could be sponsored by the Traffic Bureau.

There are obvious reasons. A movie in which Gilbert did nothing but rape Gilbertina, front, back, and sideways, would be intolerable. Physically, for the actors, and economically, for the producer. And it would also be, psychologically, intolerable for the spectator: for the transgression to work, it must be played out against a background of normality. To depict normality is one of the most difficult things for any artist - whereas portraying deviation, crime, rape, torture, is very easy.

Therefore the pornographic movie must present normality - essential if the transgression is to have interest - in the way that every spectator conceives it. Therefore, if Gilbert has to take the bus and go from A to B, we will see Gilbert taking the bus and then the bus proceeding from A to B.
