what is the churchs official position on pornorgraphy?

That it objectifies the human being and removes the dignity and spirituality of the person. Pornography degrades the human so that there is a gratification with one’s body minus the soul. The Catechism of the Catholic Church does have an official statement under the sixth commandment which covers sll of the sins against adultery, teachccd

From Catechism of the Catholic Church :

2354 Pornography consists in removing real or simulated sexual acts from the intimacy of the partners, in order to display them deliberately to third parties. It offends against chastity because it perverts the conjugal act, the intimate giving of spouses to each other. It does grave injury to the dignity of its participants (actors, vendors, the public), since each one becomes an object of base pleasure and illicit profit for others. It immerses all who are involved in the illusion of a fantasy world. It is a grave offense. Civil authorities should prevent the production and distribution of pornographic materials.

It leads you to sin and should be avoided! It makes you think about people as things not people, encourages you to use them for your own pleasure. It’s addictive and feeds a desire for ever stronger measure.

This wonderful lady has managed to save her life through Jesus’ help and is now telling the truth about this industry and the real damage it does to lives.

As someone with first hand experience, she really knows what she’s talking about

The Catholic Church’s official position on pornography is that pornography is wrong. Personally, I don’t have much of an opinion about pornography except I do think it is too objectifying.

It’s obviously a mortal sin. It sucks for those who fall into it and are trying to get out of it such as I. Just have to keep going to confession and trying hard. Although for me I’ll have a few weeks of a problem looking at it then go 6 or 7 months without it then it comes back. It’s even harder if your young and single and in college since your hormones and sex drive is really high and have been exposed with preconception from friends and the media since puberty that looking at it is normal and accepted by the majority.

However remember not to follow the ways of Man since it leads down a path of destruction. It obviously destroys marraiges, causes perverted behavior for some people and really demeans sex.

However I’m not sure on the church’s view if it is a habit like Masturbation? Like for me something will tick like some pop up or banner or something and before I know I’m looking at it and after I’m like “what just happened? why did I do that?” ect. I feel bad but it’s impulsive like an itch or a sneeze almost but I have been able to resist for 6 months and still try to if I put enough will power into it and keep going to confession.

The hard part is that I can’t easily remove my temptations since I have my own room in school because of my job and my own computer and I can’t find an internet filter for free and the porn is so easily accessible for free. I really wish it wasn’t on the internet or you had to pay a lot for it which would really cure my problem.

Any thoughts? Does the church lessen any responsibility in acquired habits?

19 They promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption; for whatever overcomes a man, to that he is enslaved. 20 For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overpowered, the last state has become worse for them than the first. 21 For it would have been better for them never to have known the way of righteousness than after knowing it to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them. 22 It has happened to them according to the true proverb, The dog turns back to his own vomit, and the sow is washed only to wallow in the mire. – 2 Peter (RSV) 2

Pornography is the vomit we dogs sometimes return to. How true the words of our first pope. Praise be to God that we have savior who endlessly offers us a chance for conversion and the sacramental grace to help us turn from this filth once and for all.
