This weekend, don’t miss out on one of the “easiest” plenary indulgences you can gain. Of course, you must meet the usual conditions, with the spirit of complete detachment from all sin, even venial sin: sacramental confession within twenty days before or after the indulgenced act, worthy reception of Holy Communion, preferably the same day, and prayers for the Pope’s intentions, also preferably that same day (a single Our Father and Hail Mary suffice). Having met the usual conditions, the Portiuncula plenary indulgence only requires a devout visit to a parish church and there praying the Creed and the Our Father between noon on August 1 and midnight on August 2. So attendance at any Sunday Mass (and even the anticipated Mass on Saturday afternoon) is the only “work” required, assuming you pray the Creed and the Our Father during Mass. If you’re new to indulgences, this would be a great day to start, and if you’re an old hand at it, why not go for it this weekend!?
