If they’re carrying out a disruptive protest in church during the middle of Mass, then I think I’d say they’ve gone a bit beyond “loose grasp of rubrics”… 🤔
That some Portlanders would stage some kind of a protest when they get upset is a given, but that Portland Catholics would protest in a church during Mass stunned me, quite frankly. That was beyond the pale. There was no excuse for it. I know people were very emotional and upset, but it was very poor judgment. That shouldn’t have even been considered as a possibility, ever.

Wow. And I thought it was a sensation when certain people stormed out of church at the reading of “…wives: be submissive to your husbands…” Now “subordinate” has replaced the offending adjective, and God is only referred to as “God”.

The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Lots of squeaking wheels in Portland.

I believe @PetraG does as well.
Let’s say I get the newspapers.
The University of Oregon blew a two-touchdown lead to lose to Auburn in their first game of the season and some guy wearing a MAGA hat got his guns taken away for publically announcing he had a detailed plan to “slaughter” Antifa (if it came to that), so I don’t think the Oregonian is going to be stopping the presses for any developments over at St. Francis.
Heavens, let’s just hope not…Peace on Earth.

While the Fred Armison & Carrie Brownstein show Portlandia enthusiastically exaggerated Portland’s PC ultra-liberalism for comedic ends, there’s a lot of truth behind the hyperbole. This Parrish seems to be much like many other “progressive” enclaves, with gray and white haired parishioners as the last true believers in the utterly mythical “spirit of Vatican II” being the equally mythical justification for savaging actual Catholicism–I find it VERY interesting these white protestors cannot abide an African having actual spiritual authority over them–with actions backed up by the actual teachings of the Catholic Church.

Re “concealed sword permit” . Here in Kansas, depending upon local stature, I could pack my cavalry saber under my trench coat (my longsword would show) perfectly legally but NOT “ninja stars”.

This has nothing to do with his color or his country of origin. It has a lot to do with coping when there is a big change in how the new pastor does things compared to previous pastors. To take their side, it is not fair to them to come in and present what the Franciscans had been doing as not “actual Catholicism,” and I have no reason to believe the new pastor said any such thing.

Actually I now live about 40 miles away; and previously I lived in a suburb of Portland.

I would hope that it has nothing to do with his color or origin. And I have no evidence to the contrary.

I have often been called a cynic; and my answer is that I am just a realist.
