Does anyone watch this quirky show? I love it! If you have ever spent time in Portland, you really will get the show. Unless, like my aging hippy cousin, you live in Portland, and you think they might have been inspired by her to make the show in the first place. She thinks the show is weird! :bounce:

Can people just not see what’s right in front of their face?😃

Nope, I don’t watch the show. Why watch tv when you have the real thing at your doorstep? Yes, I have spent time in Portland and it is much different than other parts of the country.

I haven’t seen it yet, I might check it out.

Quick question - What is different about Portland compared to nearby cities like Eugene or Seattle?

I really get the show and it’s humor. But if you have never experienced the NW is probably would seem odd. One of the most spot on shows for describing an area and a people.👍

Portland has a unique flavor. It is kind of seattle’s redheaded stepchild. When you are too wacky/poor for seattle, you move to portland it is a little more granola than seattle and the show make’s fun of this dynamic between the two cities. Eugene… well, olympia, eugene etc are like living in woodstock 24 7 Those places make Berkely go “hold up, that is too far left for us!”

Thank you! I’ve visited Seattle and I had a visual/memory about the dynamics of it. Your explanation made perfect sense for me.

Isn’t the show a little sleazy and suggestive? I routinely hear about the show in social media circles because it stars Carrie from Sleater-Kinney [90’s punk band] and there are a lot of hipsters who do cameos. However, apart from the sleaze factor, a lot of the humor is just too “inside” for me – e.g., like the recurring SNL jokes about how all white people like is “Game of Thrones” and “Homeland.” I actually think Mad-TV has been a funnier sketch show (alas, now on reruns) and considerably less sleazy than both SNL and Portlandia.
