If Catholicism really is the true branch of Christianity and Orthodoxy - though very close to us - is regarded schismatic, why is it that God has allowed the altar built above the spot of Jesus’ crucifixion in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre to be an Orthodox altar rather than a Catholic (or ecumenical) one? And why is it that there is an Orthodox, not Catholic cathedral in the biggest space of that Church and that the Orthodox generally controls most parts of it?

And if Christianity really is the true Abrahamitic religion, why is it that the Holy Land is mostly inhabitated by Jews and Muslims, and that God has allowed a mosque to be built at the spot of the Old testament temple, and that Christians (and even more so Catholics) are in such a small minority?

I have had simular thoughts in the past.

Part of the problem is that the Lord allows free will among us, and he lets all the faiths to fight over the lands, and there is no temple or Ark of the Covanent to protect anymore.

It is as if GOD is taking a back seat, watching us all fight over the Lands, and who has the Truth. There is no actual Prophet on the Earth today with the same power as Moses.

Much of what is happening on the Earth today is caused by Mans’ actions and Free Will, other than that, only GOD can judge why things are as they are today. Why things are the way they are. To know is to have a Near Death Experience, even then, peoples memories are often wiped out when the Near Death Experience ends, and they wake up.

So only GOD knows why things are as they are.

This post may have missed the mark, that you were looking for, but this was the thought I had.

Have you read the book of Revelations in the bible? The answer is…its because God is setting it up the Middle East for the battle of Armaggeddon.

Why did God allow Pagan Greeks and Romans to control the Holy Land for centuries? And Zorasterian Persians before that? And Pagan Babylonians before that?

Who controls the Holy Land is not and cannot be a test of a religion’s truth. By that perspective, the true faith is the one that currently controls the territory. The fact of the matter is that different groups have controlled the territory at different times over the last 3000 years and if the world last another 3000 years, I suspect that other groups will also control it.

The Catholic Church long ago learned that while there might be value in visiting the Holy Land, that pocessing the Holy Land is not part of the Gospel Message. I believe Jesus told the Samaritan Woman that the time was coming when true believers would worship neither on the Mountain nor in Jerusalem… That time is now.

Agno Theist…bop on the head…that is not Catholic teaching. You should take the time to read Catholic teaching on the book of Revelations. I want to start a post on why we need a Catholic President today. Many protestants want to see the temple rebult to fullfill their own erronious belive in premilinialism. It frightens me to put some of these people in office.

I asked the question from the Orthodox one day about if they are the trunk and we are the branch they claim then why is it that they do not call themselves Catholic. Because the Nicene Creed includes “one holy catholic and apostolic church”. One of them replied that they are Holy Orthodox catholic Church. So that begs the question and my realization that we are all Catholic… I refer to those that practice the Catholic faith correctly as “orthodox Catholic”… Personally, even if they are insulted, Orthodox are Catholic too. We are like JPII put it 2 lungs of the east and west. So, before trying to draw any conclusions based on whether or not a particular group is in control of a place. You need to realize that we were unified at one point. I FEEL that God is working on us somehow, trying to pull us together. He’s made it such that we sort of depend on each other so it appears at times. Somebody broke, even if both did it at the same time.
