Just thought I would share a non-complaint…

I encountered a really friendly lady at Mass today. She didn’t do anything over the top. She just smiled at me real nice a couple of times during Mass. Then as we were turning to leave she said really genuinely and with another really nice smile, “Have a really good week, sir.”

Just a random act of kindness I guess, but it made a big difference to my Sunday.

I’ve made my share of complaints over the years about various things Catholic. So I thought I’d share this little positive experience too. 🙂

That sounds like a nice time. Positive encounter indeed 🙂

This is one of the joys of being a part of the community at a parish. I don’t know almost any of the names of the parishioners that go to the 7am Mass at my parish, but everyone is really friendly to each other.

My family has long been friendly with a couple that sits in the pew in front of us - longer than I can remember - but I only just learned their last name, after the husband offered to help me get an internship at his son’s practice.

There are these three sisters who attend Mass with their elderly mother, and they’re some of the most friendly and cheerful women I’ve ever been fortunate enough to meet. Every morning as they pass the altar servers getting ready, they will come up to them and shake their hands and thank them for their service; they sometimes carry around prayer cards to give to the servers; and they always sing joyously (God hasn’t blessed them with splendid voices, but they don’t let that stop them, bless their hearts :D).

Whenever I cantor, people always come over and thank me for my service, even when my singing isn’t great.

I’m so glad that you’ve begun to feel the community of the Church on a local level - it makes all the difference in the world when you feel welcome and a part of the community.

Thank you!!! 🙂 It’s nice to see positive posts like this. Sometimes, we only speak up about negative experience. Forgetting that we have also experienced many positive ones and that it would be edifying for others to hear/read.

No judgement about anyone else by the way, mea culpa. :o

We had a fun experience at Mass today, too.

Went to the early Mass, which didn’t have any music because there was no one from the music ministry available to play/sing. After a lot of silence, spoken response, etc., Fr. jokingly asked “Anyone want to sing a cappella?” when it was time for the offeratory.

One person in the back actually chimed up! And then hubby and I joined in as well (even though I can’t sing haha). We didn’t quite get the whole church going (wouldn’t that be awesome?) but it was fun and far more spontaneous than anything else at Mass ever is. 🙂

I had a positive experience at Mass. It was a beautiful sunny day and I was in a good mood and just really enjoyed Mass and fellowship afterwards. It was a blessed Sunday. I am looking forward to receiving the ashes on Ash Wednesday and beginning the Lenten season.

Thanks for sharing, that does sound nice. It’s amazing how little things can make such a big difference.

Something similar happened to me at Mass on Saturday when we were asked to offer each other a sign of peace - an African man smiled and his two daughters were very polite in saying “peace be with you” - they then said Goodbye, have a nice weekend as I left.

In my experience the church is full of some wonderful people.

I confess that I have not been as welcoming to others as that woman was to you. That is a good example for all of us to follow. Thank for sharing that bit of good news.
