**You are right, I stand corrected. 😊 But not for simply ā€œdisagreeingā€ with the Church. **

What on earth did they do??
These are some examples of recent excommunications.

You simply misunderstand my intent. I also do think some things in the Catholic church are unscriptural, so that is a valid point, but I fail to see how that makes me ignorant or malinformed.
.
Please declare your intent, because apparently I am perceiving it incorrectly.

What makes you ignorant is the blanket statement that the Catholic Church maintained unity by killing people. If you honestly believe that, then you truly are ignorant of political and religious history, and would not be capable of a productive discussion on the subject. If you are educated on the political and social and religious structures as they have existed for the last 2000 years, then you would be knowingly asserting a mis-truth, which could only serve to further WHATEVER agenda it is you seem to be pursuing. Regardless of your actual position, I categorize it with all of the other cliched anti-Catholic positions, because the only posts I have seen you make in this thread are cliched anti-Catholic attacks, with no apparent attempt to contribute to the actual dialogue at hand in a truly productive manner.

For SHIA22, On post #292, I ask if you attended any worship services. I not trying to be ugly to you, I was just trying to understand where your coming from.

I have a sister who does not attend anywhere, says she is non-denominational. I felt from your post that you were getting information from some source. I just wondered which church if any you are a member.
I don’t attend any services anywhere. I don’t know what non denominational is, but I don’t have to belong to a group, to learn from GOD Most High. I just have to listen when HE speaks, and apply the teachings through HIS understanding to my daily life. I am HIS servant, as is a lot of other people the difference between them and me is I learn from HIM directly. John 6:45 Everyone is taught by the Father, and if they ā€œlistenā€ to HIM they are given to me. GOD takes us through a process called process of surrendering, where we surrender our hearts and minds as in Jeremiah 31:33. During the process we are set apart from the world, I have no friends, I don’t socialize with anyone unless I join a blog thing like this one.

People find it difficult to grasp that I am not in some box full of labels where people can place me here, or there. GOD is free, therefore I also am free. I love GOD with my whole heart and mind, soul and strength, as much as I love Jesus Christ. I am HIS servant, but mostly I am HIS Child.

Whether it is de facto or by formal declaration, it is ALWAYS the result of an individual’s behavior. No one ever gets ā€œblindsidedā€ with a declaration of excommunication. I challenge you to cite one documented case of a Catholic ever being excommunicated without having knowledge it was going to happen beforehand, and, having without having full opportunity to prevent it.
Why would I want to cite any such thing? Why are you inventing positions of mine to argue against?

Please declare your intent, because apparently I am perceiving it incorrectly.

What makes you ignorant is the blanket statement that the Catholic Church maintained unity by killing people.
Wow. I see how what I said may have come across this way, and I certainly did not mean that all Catholics believe under fear of death. Though, I will stand by my intended meaning: that the Catholic church, at various times in its history, used force, sometimes deadly, to keep people in line.
Honestly, I don’t think the fault lies completely with me. I think you are like a bull seeing RED any time someone says something negative about the Catholic church. I’ll try to be more careful with what I say, and try not to just throw out blanket statements that appear to demonize all Catholics.

Once again, I’m going to ask you for an apology, or for you to point out where I have used the words satanic, pagan, unsaved, or not Christian, because I don’t believe any of those things. The word ā€œchurchā€ indeed has some pagan origins, but then again, so does most of the English language. You simply misunderstand my intent. I also do think some things in the Catholic church are unscriptural, so that is a valid point, but I fail to see how that makes me ignorant or malinformed.

So far, there has been no substance in this thread other than Catholics re-affirming the thread title. There have been no valid arguments to support this assertion, so I’m not sure how you can accuse me of derailing anything.

MY REPLY. I used the quote thing, but I deleted some of the quote, please forgive me that it didn’t work.

Sometimes people get emotional in their speech, not because the intent is disrespecting anyone, but because of ā€œpassionā€ for what they choose to believe.

Even though people disagree with each other, compassion should always be shown. Bashing each other and each other’s beliefs, is not solving, enlightening, uplifting, anyone.

It was explained to me that excommunication is a discipline, or a warning to one who is not following the ways of the church, in hopes to bring that person back to humility. Ego, arrogance etc is not GOD’S way of life, and therefore they should be suppressed

The Catholics here have not reaffirmed that there is positive proof that the catholic church is the only church, because they can’t do that. It’s an assumption, and it negates the fact that GOD accepts all people who choose to live in complete obedience.

What it really boils down to is that this blog is place that people express what they know to be truth, whether it is or not it’s all they have. The catholics are not bad people but neither is anyone else who believes differently.

Deuteronomy 32:8 The Most High assigned nations their lands, HE determined where peoples should live. HE assigned each nation a heavenly being, but Jacobs descendants HE chose for Himself.

GOD has not change HIS mind, HE remains faithful, and devoted to HIS PEOPLE. Yes HE has accepted ā€œall peopleā€, but Jacobs descendants are HIS own.

True,

but you can ignore it:

Matthew 18

17If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, treat him as you would a pagan or a tax collector.

Luke 10
16"He who listens to you listens to me; he who rejects you rejects me; but he who rejects me rejects him who sent me."

John 20
21Again Jesus said, ā€œPeace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.ā€ 22And with that he breathed on them and said, ā€œReceive the Holy Spirit. 23If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.ā€

1 Timothy 3
15if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.

2 Thes 2
15So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the teachings we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter.

Matthew 16

17Jesus replied, ā€œBlessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. 18And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. 19I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.ā€

There was no dispute in the early Church.

The split with the Orthodox was much later in Christian history.

The early eastern patriarchs acknowledged the primacy of Peter and his successors.
I don’t know about that. In 1 Corinthians Paul warns the early Christians about dividing by one saying ā€œI follow Paulā€, another saying ā€œI follow Peterā€, and yet another saying " I follow Apollos".
Paul says that they all follow Christ. At no point in his letter does he suggest that they should all follow Peter. I’m a member of the RCC, but first and foremost I’m a Christian, and I can understand how someone might question some of the teachings of the RCC. Christianity is the religion!

True, but we have to trust Jesus when he told the apostles that the Holy Spirit would guide them into all truth and that that gates of hell would not prevail against his Church.

That’s a good point, however. I’m going to look it up right now!

Peter is not mentioned in my bible.

I see this as an endorsement of the Catholic Church.

Division is unacceptable.

Paul also says that the pillar and foundation of truth is the church.

One who claims to be in union with Christ will not ignore the teachings. The only ones who will ignore are those who are not in union.

back to free will Chester. People can do whatever they want, even those who say they believe ā€œignore, or live in denial of truthā€, there is nothing anyone can do about that.

You seem to ignore the scriptures that conflict with your personal dogma.

Why do you ignore the verses I posted?

In regard to your first statement. I will concede (and have never denied) that there are episodes in the 2000 year history of the Catholic Church that are ā€œless than stellarā€. There are, historically, prominent leaders (Popes included) who make it hard, uponthe examination of evidence, to be considered anything less than evil. We have had at least one Pope who had a mistress, and there are probablyseveral bishops during the inquisitions who held a great amount of personal culpability in handing over people to the secular government to be executed for heresy. I could just as easily claim, in a blanket statement, that the Catholic Church has never killed anyone; that was the role of the secular government. To counter with the statement that the Church has never killed anyone, is no more accurate than to say the Church maintained unity through execution, and would deny the moral culpability of the bishops during the crusades that may have unfairly handed individuals over to the secular authorities for execution.

I do not ā€œsee redā€ when someone says anything negative about the Church. You may find it hard to believe, but, I have negative opinions about the Church (or rather the actions and decisions of some of those in charge of governing it) myself. Historically, there are actions taken by leaders of the Church that I will not deny or try to defend. I assure you, my friend, that I am not jaded in my view of the Church. It was your presentation that I took offense with, and led me to conclude you were simply promoting a solid and cliched anti-catholic agenda, with the standard misinformation, half-truths, and just plain errant statements. Your last response leads me to believe that my assessment was made in haste. I will apologize for my lack of charity, and afford you more opportunity to further articulate your positions and opinions in the future.

What makes you think I ignored them because I didn’t comment?

You’re a negative person Chester, only someone with fear and doubt in what they believe would respond as you.

May GOD judge you with love Chester, and not as you have judged me.

I will pray that you become stronger in the knowing of who GOD is, and HIS understanding of the Scriptures, and you quit relying on your own, or those of your teachers.

Then we are in complete agreement, and I apologize if my posts just seemed like anti-Catholic blather.

I am going to comment here, because I can not tell if you do not understand, or simply refuse to acknowledge the Catholic position.

Catholics believe that salvation lies with union in Christ. Since Christ IS the Church, and that Church is a real and visible institution that was left to us by Him, and still exists to this very day in the same identifiable form He left it to His apostles, to be in union with Christ is to be in union with the Church. Catholics believe the Church to be teh Catholic Church.

This does NOT mean that to be in union with Christ (and the Church) it is necessary to be a conscious, ā€œcard carryingā€, practicing Catholic. God’s ways are not our ways. It is the official position of the Church that we will ultimately be judged by a God who’s wisdom and mercy is generous beyond our capacity to understand as humans, and it is possible to obtain salvation without being consciously and visibly joined to the Catholic Church in one’s lifetime.

However, it is also the position of the Catholic Church that willfully rejecting what one KNOWS to be the will of God puts one’s soul in mortal danger. We KNOW, as Catholics, through faith by the Holy Spirit, that the Catholic Church is the Church Jesus gave us to be the vehicle for our salvation and through which we will be led into all Truth. Anyone who accepts this and turns from the Church is turning from Christ Himself.

I get the sense that your assertions are probably more ā€œCatholicā€ than you may realize. The Church has always taught that we are judged by a loving and merciful God, based on how we have cooperated with the graces He has given us, and the Truth He has revealed to us, in this life.

(Joshua, please correct me if I’m wrong. I mean that sincerely because I am yet a ā€œbaby catholicā€.)

**The problem lies with the accusation that the Church claims to be ā€œinfallibleā€. The Church claims no such thing. Infallibility has only to do with the Pope as he speaks ā€œex cathedraā€ as in from the chair of Peter and ONLY on matters of faith and morals. **

In other words simply put, a Pope can be a dirty rotten scoundrel and as long as he does not teach that point-of-view from Scripture or by means of any part of The Deposit of Faith, he is fully within the authority of Jesus Himself.

**The point is the catholic Church does not have to be perfect in all matters. And Jesus trusted His Church to sinful people. When did Jesus EVER say His Church would be entrusted to that one or those who were free of sin? That’s simply redicuous. If you believe that then you must believe that there is no one worth Jesus promise on earth and he made the promise in vain. **

To deny that there is a Church which Jesus founded still alive and well today means that you deny Jesus kept his promise. If you accept that Jesus kept His promise, then you must be able to recognize that church today. And if you keep your standards such as you have now, then you must go one step further and put words into Jesus’ mouth and be able to recognize a perfect, infallible church.

**One cannot have it both ways. Jesus only said His Apostles could not teach against Scripture. He then said whatever they bind on earth will be bound in Heaven, so if you are looking for the Church that fulfills THAT promise, the ONLY Church who claims to do this and DOES it is the Catholic Church. **

**They have doctrine and dogma but NEVER have they interpreted Scripture to the Christian world in error. **

Thank you Josuha for the clarity. I don’t agree with everything you say, but I know you recognize the truth in me as I recognize the truth in you. As far as me being catholic, it really doesn’t matter, I learned from GOD directly through HIS interpretation of HIS Truth, if that matches what you believe, then You have given me hope that there is more people like you that shares the truth.

I will share something with you. My father is Jewish, converted to christianity before my birth. I was raised catholic, my god father was a priest whom I loved dearly, he was a monsignor before he died. But I will tell you. I learned nothing from the catholic church and I removed my name from the books. I was very young then. It wasn’t until I was much older that GOD revealed who HE was to me, I didn’t know who HE was or why HE would bother appearing to me. I didn’t even know it was Gabriel who appeared to me blowing the trumpet. It took me a long time to accept GOD, because the church taught that you had to be special, and I was a common person. Jesus appeared one morning and told me to read Jeremiah 18 the Parable of the Potter and the teachings continued. I follow GOD, and His Anointed Son. I am glad to know that there is people like you Joshua who own the truth, who is humble and reaches out. Thank you again.

You are essentially correct on this. I think the problem most people have is the implications through the use of the word ā€œinfallibleā€. People take that to mean that the bishop of Rome is perfect. When taken from the opposite perspective, that declaration is a very powerful testament to the sovereignty of God. The declaration of papal infallibility is actually the declaration that God will protect His Church from teaching error. It is only by the intervention of God that the pope is not capable of teaching an error, because God will simply not allow it to happen. There is record of a pope dying inexplicably just before authorizing a specific translation of the Bible that bordered on heresy by all historical accounts. Papal infallibility has nothing to do with a Catholic’s faith in ecclesial institutions or ā€œtraditions of menā€. The belief in papal infallibility is the strongest expression of faith in God that a Catholic can make. I trust that God gave me a Church, and will protect me from falling into error by directly preventing His Church from teaching me anything that is not Truth.

The pope may or may not always be a pious individual worthy of his office, but regardless of the inadequacies of the Church leadership and their personal accountability before God, I have absolute faith that God will do whatever He deems necessary to prevent the Church He gave us from ever formally declaring a doctrine or teaching that is not Truth. My bible tells me so, reaffirms this principle many times, and Apostolic christianity and the records of history attest to this.

**This may sound very odd, but well before I was confirmed, when I saw Pope John Paul II on televison I KNEW he was God’s messenger to all of us as Christians. I just knew in my heart that God was speaking through him and that he was my Holy Father. I can’t explain the connection except to say that it was God letting me know that He put His faith in the Pope and I should too. **

It is a wonderful feeling to know we have a true shepard that will watch over us. He is a man and will make mistakes but we are all human and that makes him that much more believable. He goes to confession just like we do. That should tell everyone he does NOT claim to be God or infallible.

That is how I know in my heart that the Catholic Church is the Church that Christ founded.

I’m going to throw this in not to offend anyone but just to make a point… Jesus Christ can be found in the catholic church at all times, in the flesh. I have only to go to my tabernacle and kneel before Him and ask Him for whatever I need. I cherish that. I don’t know what I would do if I could not go there and do that.
