What does it really mean to be possessed by Stan? Can it happen to anyone?

Or did you perhaps mean “Satan” and left out the first ‘a’.

Personally, I don’t think that anyone was ever possesed by Satan unless that person had a direct involvement with heaven. What I mean by that is maybe Judas might have been possesed by Satan himself because he was directly in touch with Jesus.

Otherwise, I don’t think that Satan possesses people. He leaves that for his demons because he has other things to work on. Of course, being possessed by even a demon is bad enough as it is. Being possessed by Satan himself would be pretty horrible, I would think.

I heard on Catholic Answers Live that someone can become possessed one of two ways:

(1) Any unbaptised person can be possessed by demons without there consent.

(2) Any baptised person can be possessed by demons if they allow themselves to be possessed.

I’m not an expert on this, just thought that’s what I heard.
 
Read “An Exorcist Tells His Story” by Fr. Gabrielle Amorth. He is the appointed exorcist for the Vatican. It gives you all the information you’d ever need or want. In short, demonic posessions do happen, although they are relatively rare nowadays. They can be caused by a variety of reasons also. Anyone who is honestly following God and receiving the sacraments has little need to worry.

threej_lc & Stylteralmaldo, you are CONFIRMING what I am saying. I said that I don’t think that Satan HIMSELF possesses anyone unless that person has some tie to heaven.

INSTEAD, I think that he lets his demons do all of the possessions. This is exactly what you have said … * “demonic posessions do happen”

    … the possessions are done by Satan’s demons but not by Satan himself.
Not because he couldn’t but because he’s got more important things to do on his list like ATTEMPTING to overthrow the Catholic church, start a major world war, etc.; things like that. He’s not interested in getting ONE soul the way the demons are. Instead Satan is interested in getting MANY souls.
 
I dont think Satan or any demons need to possess people anymore. The devil has enough help from ourselves and society.

Yes I believe that Satan is more concerned with the Church and the human race at large and so is trying to undermine us by just allowing the evil already sown here to fester.

Sometimes typos can really be funny. I could see being “possessed by Stan” as a topic Gary Larson might have used in the Far Side.

Maybe Stan is related to the lesser-devil character in Dilbert: Phil, the prince of insufficient light.

Read “Hostage to the Devil” by Malachi Martin, “Possessed - the True Story of an Exorcism” by Thomas B. Allen or “Beware the Night” by Ralph Sarchie. Sarchie is a New York City Police Sargent who investigates suspected cases of demonic possession in his spare time.
 
Anyone ever play Monkey Island? Man… that would really suck to be posessed by Stan…

From what I’ve heard possesion is rare nowdays.

It is obsession by demons that is overwhelmingly harmful in todays society.

I once knew a guy named Stan, although I don’t think he was ever posessed.:whacky:

On another note, I just started reading Hostage to the Devil. I am still in the introduction and already amazed by this book. Not quite posessed by it, but definately amazed!
 
When I was MUCH younger, I got my car repossed by a guy named Stan. Well, at least that was the name on his uniform shirt.
