Funny how they criticize us for being “ritualistic”…aren’t their invoking The Holy Spirit through prayer and chanting practices “ritualistic”?

Don’t tell me none of you have had crazy moments before…It’s the same here. People are being crazy, but they think it’s the “fire of the Holy Spirit” 😦

Reminds me of the Whirling Dervishes…
 
I can promise you, Alexius, I have never behaved like that. And my old-fashioned sensibilities would never allow me to act like that in public!

Not like Benny Hinn – I don’t think Benny Hinn believes in the Real Presence and Benny Hinn does not believe in the Church with the fullness of Truth. And Benny Hinn dresses much better! Hey, even the Catholic Crazymatics love our Lord. And. . . HAPPY AND BLESSED NEW YEAR TO ALL!!!
 
It looks like classic hysteria to me.

God is fine, but some people can take it too far and use it for bad things. Consider reading “When God Becomes a Drug” by Fr. Leo Booth.

There are many brands of charismatics in the Catholic fold. I have never seen or heard of anything like the stuff in that film.

Frankly, I am suspicious of Catholics who engage in this “charismatic” stuff. To me it is just Protestant dramatics and hysteria. There is such deep beauty and spirituality in the Catholic faith, why do they need the crazy dramatics and theatrics?

I do believe Catholic charismatics exist, but the genuine ones will avoid all the outward dramatics and even be more secretive than anything about their gifts.
 
Catholic Charismatics to me are just Catholic Pentecostals.

For me, it’s fine. As long as they are good, devout Catholics and do not violate our rules, and all of them are good Catholics.

I haven’t really seen any that have stepped out of line.

I am a conservative Catholic, but I won’t deny any Christian their manner of service. Ultimately, that’s between them and God.

I’ll stick to my near monk-like form of worship.

They can do what they do.

I’ll just choose to worship the way I believe that Jesus worshipped…He is after all, the model.

God bless them all.

Excellent question.

I’ve never seen them go as (what I’d call overboard) “in the spirit” as Protestants.

Possession of The Holy Spirit VS Possession of an evil spirit.

How does one discern?
What are the fruits?

If the fruits are Holy, then it is of a Spirit of God.
If not, then we know who.

I can’t make that call because I don’t see the results really.

But I have to say this, when I hear them worship, it’s as beautiful as when the Pentecostals worship. I’ve always an appreciation for how the Pentecostals praised God. The addition of the love for Mary and for The Saints and for the appreciation of the True Sacraments is what graces Catholic Charismatics.

Point of interest: Did you guys know that The Catholic Charismatics are the biggest set of Christian Charismatics in the world?

The Pentecostals flip out when I tell them that! LOL!

We’ve hijacked their gig! LOL!

But it’s all in good fun.

I wonder, are there any Pentecostal/Catholic Charismatic combined worship events that take place?

I guess to answer that you would have to define what you mean by possessed.

Charismatics are Faithful that have been lead be the Holy Sprite in a a dramatic display of gifts from him. they are neither more or less correct than those to whom practice Traditional display of praise and worship. There are times at during Mass and in private prayer and meditation that I have felt the power of God move upon me that makes it impossible to stand as well as lift me up so that I feel the need to shout and dance( that has not happened during Mass). The Holy sprite talks and moves in us all in different ways, but will not lead you to acts at times when you / or God would ridiculed for doing so ( see the above links to videos) unless he had a direct messge for you to give.

In other word I doubt that you would ever see a charismatic falling out or dancing and speaking in tungs during Mass. See 1 Corinthians 14.

The stuff in the film is off-base, to me. I’m more familiar with people like Ralph Martin. He’s authored a pretty good book called “The Fulfillment of All Desire.” It’s a summary/discussion of the mystical thought of Catherine of Sienna, Therese of Avila, the Little Flower, Francis DeSales, and a couple others. Big book, requiring – at least for me – note-taking and some thought and prayer. The point: Catholic Charismatics are not at odds with the church, usually have a deep love for the Real Presence and the Blessed Mother. However, to each his own. We’re all God’s children and sometimes we tell Him “I love you” in different ways.
