With the Motu Proprio and the recent step forward toward reconciliation with the SSPX, I can’t help but wonder if we are moving toward the creation of a new “rite” within the Church of adherents to the Latin Mass, a-la the Eastern Rite churches.
While I know the Motu Proprio specifically states that they are two forms of the same rite, with entire chapels devoted exclusively to the TLM, and with orders of priests specifically dedicated to the TLM, does anyone think it is possible that, especially if the SSPX becomes fully reconciled with Rome, we may see a “Traditional” or “Extraordinary” Rite (for lack of a better term, with the “Latin Rite” moniker already taken) come about?
