I realize that I might be ahead of myself but I’ve got two grown children that are dating non-catholics both of which are very devoted to their churches as are we to ours. One is Mormon and the other Non-denominational. YES, has anyone here been in a similar situation and did it work out? I’m thinking that they’re thinking marriage.

in our extended family of 14 sisters and brothers, all but 2 (outwardly staunch Catholics raised by good Catholic parents attending 12 yrs Catholic schools) married non-Catholics, and none of these are still practising Catholics. The Church is right to condemn the practice, and while dispensations are possible, they are not advisible.

It can work out, but seldom does. I married my Southern Baptist wife four years ago. She’s starting RCIA this fall, and both of our children were baptized Catholic (too young to start school yet).

I agree with Paul, knowing several Mormons, it proposes the most problems due to the “Mormon culture” structure, non LDS exclusion form LDS Temples, etc.

Best of luck though. If G*d wills it, you will find a way.

I was a Mormon when I married my Catholic husband.

That being said, I would not recommend it at all.

It took me a few years to convert, but it did happen. I hoped that my husband would convert to Mormonism, but that, thankfully didn’t happen.

Mormonism is sooooo different than Christianity. Make sure your child knows these differences before they marry!

I would advise your daughter careful with the young man who is LDS. Many LDS have very strong feelings when it comes to family and I am sure there are many who, when they begin raising a family, want to return to their faith. I actually worked with a couple in Japan who were of different denominations. Things worked out for the couple (Yes I was an LDS missionary and the spouse joined the church) but I’m sure there are many instances where there are big problems. I would advise them to find a faith they can both agree on before they get married if they are insistent on doing so.
