Possible response to criticism of Vatican's wealth

Eight billion is a drop in the bucket compared to some other banks, but those banks are completely transparent, or at least they get audited. Try Googling the net worth of the Vatican Bank and you’ll find secrecy to the point that any estimation is a guess. I don’t understand the secrecy and obviously, neither did Pope Benedict

Is there a particular reason why you think the Vatican needs to be transparent with its money? If the Vatican asked, would you make your financial dealings transparent to the Church?

I’ve already made them transparent to my CPA and my financial adviser and I don’t confess my sins to them, so yes, I would. Some of that money (10% of my earnings) was donated by me and I’m sure some by you. I’ve always considered myself part of the Catholic Church and as a board member of my parish, there is nothing we hide from the congregation. Wouldn’t you be just a little interested in where your contributions go within your parish, or Diocese, or on up? The Vatican belongs to all Catholics. World view has the secrecy of our finances as perhaps even a larger issue to Pope Francis than the sex scandal. Don’t you think it should be addressed?

I trust the Church to know how to handle the money I give 'em. 🤷 I personally don’t give a flip about what the world things of the secrecy of the Vatican’s bank, because “the world” doesn’t do one-tenth of the good things for people that the Vatican does.

So, nope, I don’t think it needs to be addressed. I don’t think there’s an issue, and that the Vatican can run its bank however they’d like, 'cause they’re all grown-up boys and girls over there.

As history has shown there have good holy popes and a few that have not been so good and holy. If there have been any dishonest things going on within the Vatican’s bank, I believe Pope Francis will address them, but maybe not publicly.

I have no problem with what the Vatican has, but it will be refreshing to have a Pope that does not always need to show the wealth and ornateness of the church, and to save it for the bigger events.

I think the reason why that bank is so secretive is because they are doing it to prevent any takeover attempts by other banks.

Read the article, not impressed. I’ve seen Illuminati-conspiracy forums that were less biased.

The Church isn’t a political organization, and doesn’t have to act like one. If the world doesn’t like that, they can go find someone else’s financial affairs to meddle in. That’s what too many people are, these days: meddlers and busybodies. They need hobbies, in a truly desperate way.

The wealth and ornateness of the Church belongs to Catholics all over the world. There’s nothing intrinsically wrong with displaying such, and I highly doubt that Pope Benedict “felt the need” to display it for its own sake. Might choose your words a little more carefully.

I never said there was anything wrong with displaying anything, a said it would be refreshing to see a Pope not display it all the time. It shows humility. I think my word were just fine.

I wouldn’t be impressed by one article either but when every article involving the subject takes ya down the same road one has to give it some thought.
