Post Appropriately

If you started a thread and suddenly found that it was closed, it means that it did not belong in TC Forum.

As I have said at least three times, please post threads where they belong.

To post on TC forum the thread must meat all of these criteria. Please try to stick to them.
  1. About some aspect of Catholic Tradition, includes Canon Law, Church History, Saints, good sermons (that are not in conflict with the Church), and other subjects in sticky that says Good subjects for TC forum.
  2. Thread has not possible home in any other forum
  3. Please remember that light chat belongs in Back Fence. I don’t mean an occasional lighthearted comment between members. I mean a thread on a light subjects such as how to cook past the Catholic way or some such thing.

I’m not trying to pick a fight; I’m just curious – why not move the thread, rather than just killing it? Is it that the former is more work than the latter?

There are several reasons:
  1. This is an adult forum. There have been at least four maybe five notices on this matter and people still don’t do it.
  2. People have been sent PMs asking them where to put threads.
  3. Months ago I created a sticky that lists good subjects for this forum and again, adults are not following it.
  4. When children leave their toys in the wrong place, do we reinforce the behavior by putting the toy away for them or do we take more serious action? Why is it that adults should get a pass that children don’t get?
  5. Moving a thread requires reading through it, deleting posts that are inappropriate, giving infractions if there are violations of rules, because you don’t want to dump a bad thread on another moderator. When you have to do this five times, it can take at least 30 minutes that you could spend reading through threads that DO belong in your forum and cleaning them up. Apologetics, TC, Cath News and Non Cath Religions are very busy forums with over 1,000 new posts per day. We have to try to read as many as we can to ensure that they comply with rules. We do this to protect members from bullies, porn, spam, proselytizing and other injurious forms of posts.
  6. Closing threads seems to have finally gotten people’s attention.

If I may comment, I think most people do not know what Traditional Catholicism is. When I first came here and I saw “Traditional Catholicism”, I thought anything regarding the Catholic Church falls in this forum. That is why perhaps many opt to post here a wide array of topics.

What happened was that the Traditionalists kind of took over the forum and it became home to the SSPX group for a long time. Eventually, SSPX threads were banned. That dispersed the SSPX group to other sites. There were some people who still wanted a forum only for Traditionalists. That’s not the vision that we had in mind. Our vision was a little broader. We envisioned a forum for Catholic traditions.

There are parts of Catholic tradition that are so weighty that they merit their own forum. That’s how we get aplogetics, scripture, liturgy, Eastern Catholicism, vocations, and spirituality. The volume of threads on those subjects is huge. That left TC Forum for the smaller volumes.

Maybe it should say:

Where did you find that, because I thought I had updated every place where there was a description of TC forum. Obviously, I missed some post somewhere. Could you PM me the link? I would truly appreciate it.

Yeah, but I still think most people new to the site wouldn’t know that distinction. I mean, at least that was how it was with me when I first came to CAF.

No, we’re not. We’re saying that the TC Forum is not for the discussion of the EF Which is very different.

The EF is part of Catholic tradition. Therefore, it can certainly be discussed on TC.
