One of the priests at our church sings the most beautiful hymn after communion…I do not know what it is called and want to find out. I will ask him next time I see him, but thought this board might know what it was…are there any “popular” post-communion hymns?

Our parish sings “Soul of My Savior”

SOUL OF MY SAVIOR
Soul of my Sav-ior, sanc-ti-fy my breast; Bod-y of Christ, be thou my sav-ing guest; Blood of my Sav-ior, bathe me in thy tide; Wash me with wa-ter flow-ing from his side.

Strength and pro-tec-tion may thy Pas-sion be; O Bless-ed Je-sus, hear and an-swer me; Deep in thy wounds, Lord, hide and shel-ter me; So shall I nev-er, nev-er part from thee.

Hear me, Lord Je-sus, lis-ten as I pray; “Lead me from night to nev-er ending day. Fill all the world with love and grace di-vine, And glo-ry, laud, and praise be ev-er thine.”

“Pains Angelicus” is a common one that is very beautiful.

Thank you all!! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:I am going to listen to each of these tomorrow - I’ll report back.

That’s interesting. I’ve never heard that third verse before. The third verse in our books goes ‘Guard and defend me from the Foe malign. In Death’s dread moment, make me only Thine. Call me and bid me come to Thee on high, where I may praise Thee with thy saints for ay’…

These are all so beautiful, but none of the above! I think I will email the priest…we will be at another parish this weekend as we are going on vacation…it may be weeks until I see this priest again. I am not sure I can wait, lol. Do you think it’d be ok to email to ask him?

Email and ask. It is one of the joyous emails he will receive during that day I am sure. 😄

In the meantime, what language was he singing in? Do you remember some words? There are lots of popular post-communion hymns.

With many of these old hymns, many verses were written. I’m a “sing all the verses” gal, but, sadly, not everyone shares my joy 🙂

They just played the tune (no words) on EWTN radio! Title of the hymn was not given. I’ll email him I think.

I do not remember any words because I cannot quite make them out.

Father responded 🙂
The title is “Jesus My Lord My God My All” or “Sweet Sacrament”

it’s so touching. I’m a bit embarrassed, like I should’ve known this but trying not to feel that way.

There are enough hymns in the Catholic Church that we can be singing 24 hours a day for weeks if not months. Very likely years and decades if we sing them in different languages too. 😄

It’s my first time hearing this hymn. Wish we would sing it in my parish.

In our parish the choir usually sings a meditation piece while the priest is purifying the vessels, then everyone sings a song of thanksgiving right before the final blessing. No one gets to leave early. The recessional is usually just an instrumental piece on the organ.

That’s the prayer of St. Ignatius of Loyola put to music.

So am I! I love to sing all the verses too but sometimes it doesn’t work out that way. 😥
Thomas Aquinas wrote a Eucharistic hymn for the sequence for Corpus Christi. I think it has 22 verses. You probably would not want to sing the whole thing at the Saturday afternoon vigil mass, also known in some places as the “quickie mass”.
