I’ve just been Confirmed Catholic, and it was an amazing, blessed experience. It hasn’t been easy, because my Protestant family didn’t approve. They’re very loving, but occasionally there have been fights between us.

I need prayer for strength in my faith, for I’ll probably be living at home for another four years.

Praying a Hail Mary for you, Lief Erikson …

Stay strong!

Bible verses from today’s Liturgy of the Hours:

Mid-morning reading (Terce) 2 Corinthians 5:19 - 20 ©
God has entrusted to us the news of reconciliation. So we are ambassadors for Christ; it is as though God were appealing through us, and the appeal that we make in Christ’s name is: be reconciled to God.

Noon reading (Sext) Acts 5:12 - 14 ©
Many signs and wonders were worked among the people at the hands of the apostles and the numbers of men and women who came to believe in the Lord increased steadily.

Afternoon reading (None) Acts 5:41 - 42 ©
The apostles left the presence of the Sanhedrin glad to have had the honour of suffering humiliation for the sake of the name. They preached every day both in the Temple and in private houses, and their proclamation of the Good News of Christ Jesus was never interrupted.

I like very much how those scriptures apply to my situation :). I haven’t even thought much about being a witness in my house. I’ve been feeling very much on the defensive. I hope that the Lord may use me as a witness, however.

Dear Leif, do keep in touch with the forum during your years still at home.

I thank God for giving you the gift of Catholic faith. May God give you peace and help you to witness by the quiet joy and respect and faithfulness in which you live this faith.

Bless you, and welcome! 🙂

Our love “is not to be mere words or mere talk, but something real and active; only by this can we be certain that we are children of the truth.” [John 3:18-19] Your apostle Paul exhorts, “…Love each other as brothers should, and have a profound respect for each other…If any of the saints are in need you must share with them; and you must make hospitality your special care.” [Romans 12:9-13]

Leif,

Will be praying for you. Just consciously live your faith and you will be a witness for your family. When you do, your family will begin to respect your decision. This exact thing has happened to several friends.

May God continue to bless you.

Leif,
I have had a very similar experience myself. Be steadfast in your faith.
I will remember you in my prayers.

Praying for your family Lief!
I prayed for my own family and I recieved peace with them.
Congratulations on becoming CATHOLIC!
GOD BLESS YOU!

Thanks :). My family is for the most part just not talking about the issue, because in that way we can have more peace. They are being kind and are doing all they can to do right in these circumstances. I think that if I married a Catholic and had a child who started moving toward Protestantism, I’d probably react in the same way they are. And when there is a fight, it’s as much my fault as theirs, for I’m like my father and brother, quite aggressive.

I enormously respect how my family is approaching this, and of course I understand where they’re coming from. I just could use strength for the long term. These surroundings aren’t entirely easy, and I do feel an underlying tension because of these differences. The tension is under the surface most of the time now, but it’s still there.

I will ask our Mother and Queen to pray for you and your intentions…
