Listen to my words: this man is a saint.

So humble.

So visibly conscious of his own limitations. Not impressed by the glamour of papacy at all.

First thing he does as a Pope: to pray for the previous Pope.

Second thing he does as a Pope: to ask people to pray for him.

I felt almost like he was levitating above the crowd in the moment he was at the balcony. Almost as if his conscience were sitting 20 miles above, with God, and saying to Him:

“Look how happy they are, Lord, help me to do a good job, please.”

SAINT FROM THE BEGINNING. There is no other way to describe Pope Francis.
I thought the same thing. 🙂 I also thought he must have been thinking looking out at all those people, that there were so many and such a great responsibility and prayed for help to do a good job.

So in love with our new Holy Father!!! I’m even feeling this strong compulsion to pray for him throughout the day and at night. We have been blessed by the Holy Spirit for sure. Cannot believe this is happening in our lifetime.

I am so thrilled and heartened by our Pope Francis! The more that I read about him and hear from him, the more my spirit leaps with joy! There is a special place in my heart for each of the popes that have served during my lifetime: JPII, Benedict XVI, and now, Pope Francis. Never did I imagine after the passing of JPII, that I could be inspired by another pope like I was by his words and exhortations. Nonetheless, I find myself drawn to Pope Francis.

It is almost as if he is preparing Christ’s flock for an immersion into the Ignatian spiritual exercises: 1) to remind us of our original purpose and mission, 2) to deepen our prayer life to make each action, thought, and word a prayer, 3) to purify ourselves of attachments to things that keep us from grace, 4) to open ourselves to the mercy of God, & 5) To seek a deeper communion with God and His Holy Church. How much the world is in need of a pure and simple faith: to enkindle in our hearts the fire of God’s love and to live it daily.

I do believe that Pope Francis will guide us through these difficult times, remind us of who we are called to be, and invite us to walk with him on the journey!

I love God, I love His Church, I love the office of the Pope. I love that we have a new Pope.
I do not know the Pope. I cannot love something I do not know. But so far, I think when all is said and done we will love this man.

So far I have nothing but positive thoughts and very hopeful assumptions. I like the man’s style very much. I had no particular expecations of him, positive or negative (previously), and I expect to continue to respond favorably to him.

This is just personal and is meant with no negativity toward anybody else, including any former Pope. I always felt that I was the one “out of it” for not having “clicked” with JP2 the way so many Catholics obviously did. I triied for years. It never worked, so perhaps it was just a personality thing. (Mine.) What I’m trying to say is, I feel drawn toward Pope Francis in the same way that so many others described their attraction to JP2.

The more I think about it, the more I think Pope Francis’ style could actually be VERY effective - i.e., his humble demeanor could make some lukewarm Catholics think, “this is different… Maybe I’ll listen to this guy,” and then he hits them with some good, solid, orthodox Catholic teaching.

I’ve always been a big believer in the Holy Spirit giving us the perfect Pope for the time.

Interesting. I was not drawn to JPII at all. Everyone I know looks at me like I am an alien. I think he was a great Pope, a Holy man and a good leader. But he did not click with me at all. 🤷

Now I feel better, even though I still think that we’re probably the minority.

Thanks for sharing.

I am really excited about Pope Francis, and I will be praying for him daily. 🙂

I did not click with him until I met him. Then you couldn’t help click with him. He looked at you as if you were the only person in the room. You could tell that you were in the presence of great holiness. After meeting him once at an audience that he had for Franciscan superiors and then attending two masses with him, one Christmas Eve at St. Peter’s and another on the Solemnity of St. Francis in his private chapel, I saw him pray close up. I was convinced that this was a man to whom I had to pay more attention, because he had a great deal to teach me about holiness. I feel the same about Pope Francis.

This morning I watched him celebrate the mass at Santa Anna, the little parish inside Vatican City. At the end of mass he processed down the main aisle. Instead of heading for the sacristy, he walked right out the door and stood outside greeting the parishioners like any parish priest. It was beautiful to see him speak to children, kiss a few and ask another little boy to pray for him. He hugged the parishioners, smiled and made some laugh. Suddenly, he turned toward the gate that leads from Vatican City into the City of Rome and into the street to talk with the people there. Don’t ask me why people were out there. No one said.

I felt a pang of apprehension for his safety, but I also felt a great sense of devotion to him. He is truly a Jesuit. I find this endearing. He has that Jesuit simplicity and joy. At the same time, he’s very much a protoge of St. Francis, the universal brother. Again, I feel that he is a man to be watched, not only because he can disappear on you in a moment’s notice, LOL, but we can learn a great deal about simplicity and fraternity from this man.

I think that God’s plan is unfolding before our very eyes, if we pay close attention. Without going back through every pope back to Peter, let’s just look at the two. Pope Benedict was very much the catechist. He was a pope to whom everyone should have listened. He had a lot to say that needed to be said. Pope Benedict said it. Pope Francis will show us how to apply what Benedict said. The one seems to flow out of the other.

There are no coincidences in God’s plan.

Fabulous thank you!

I already love His Holiness Pope Francis!! his humble ways and his style is, in my opinion, just what the Chruch needs!

Viva il Papa Francis! May God Bless him! 👍

I have great love for our new Holy Father. He seems like such a warm, humane, personable soul with a true common touch.

I think that his humility, simplicity and poverty is exactly what the church needs at this time.

As Jreducation has said above, we’ve been blessed for the past eight years with a great teaching pontificate, like the one which preceded it.

Now God has gifted us with an exemplar pope who is teaching us chiefly through the way of life which he lives.

I too watched that. Very touched by his simple celebration, yet very reverent, of the Mass.

I also have some concerns for his safety. I expect that being a target is nothing new to a Jesuit, however?

I appreciate your thought about how Pope Benedict said it, and Pope Francis will show us how to apply it. That is wonderfully put. Talk about continuity.

God Bless.

Such a wonderful Sunday morning with Pope Francis. I believe that the Vatican gendarmerie was nearly going crazy when he greeted all those people before and after the Mass. And when he called the 2 priests from the crowd (that he knew personally) and take them in the church and he presented one of them (Gonzalo, from Urugyay) to the church.
The best Sunday after some diccult months. Many happy tears.

May God bless him.
