The picture is from 1933, but it still looks the same today- from this angle.

My home parish: St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Sherman Oaks, California. 🙂

And as far as churches in Chicago go, you would not want to miss (top to bottom) St. Mary of the Angels, St. Clement in Lincoln Park, and St. Michael in Old Town:

I think the middle one is St Clement. Been to St Mary of the Angels many times as well as St Michael in Old Town, which has a 60 ft high altar. I was going to post both of them, but you have better photos then there websites.

I can’t believe how beautiful those churches are. Especially Saint Clement!

I have to go back to my home Parish I have lived almost all over the country but when I ever I make back home this church always takes my breath away.

I thought my parish church looked just fine before, but a modernistic bishop probably hand-sketched the changes.

start here

and follow the links for the tour.

You can see the heavy-handed revisions of removing statues and main crucifix, putting in touchdown-Jesus statue, and opening up panels of the main altar for lighting. Thank God that we still have kneelers and a tabernacle in the traditional location.

Every little alcove had a statue. I don’t know where they all went.

It has very melodic bells.

Ah, adobe!

For those unfamiliar, it requires annual maintenance of fresh mud. In Ranchos de Taos, the parishioners do it as a joint project with hundreds of them working together.

I posted a week ago about a statement I made to a neighbor when he asked if I ever went to Mass at the neighborhood Catholic parish. I explained to him that based on the way the church looked from the outside I had no desire to step foot in the church.

Here’s a picture that doesn’t do justice to how truly ugly this church really is:

Several responded with shock that I could be so ‘judgemental’ for not even trying to assist at Mass there. Of course I’m not being judgemental, just prudent.
Haha, its hideous on the eyes, but it’s still a sight nicer than my church in photographs… 🙂

It’s judgmental to avoid a church because it’s ugly, but I don’t care. Part of the Mass is having the senses ‘stimulated.’

I know. I wish I could just travel around the world to attend mass at these buildings.

In Christ through Mary,
Nevermore

Beautiful places…

National Shrine of the Little Flower, Royal Oak Michigan
Blessed Sacrament Cathedral, Detroit Michigan
Ste. Anne, Mackinac Island Michigan
Old St Mary’s, Detroit Michigan
Cathedral of Mary of the Assumption, Saginaw MI
St Malachy’s, Belfast Northern Ireland

I will going to the Hidden Gem (St Mary’s Catholic Church) in Manchester, UK when I visit England just after Xmas, and attend Mass there alongside with one of my long time great friends who is also Catholic like me.

Here’s the “church” I go to when I’m away at school…

Here’s the 2008 Vigil for Life Mass that I assisted at with the Knights. I was in the Crypt Church for that.

Do I win?

I also go to the smaller chapel on campus as well more often. The church I go to at home is much more modernistic and I’m not a big fan but I make the effort to go to another parish in the area every now and then as well.

…and here is mine. I received all my sacraments there including nuptial mass. When I walk in I can feel the Catholicism.
