Post Prostate Cancer Surgery

As a new Catholic I have a rather delicate question. My husband had surgery to remove a cancerous prostate. We are still waiting to see if things will ever be “normal” again. Are there acceptable ways to maintain an intimate relationship in this situation or is this part of our life over? We are both younger than 50.

The surgery was done for medical reasons to save his life, not for contraceptive purposes.

There are different surgeries today though. Some that cause issues with erectile function and some that don’t. Sometimes men can choose which surgery, others they can’t.

If he had the one that does, there are options from a medical side. I would think that since those do not interfere with sperm production or “life issues”, those were neutralized to stop the cancer, there is nothing wrong with having a relations.

In fact I would say that God wants you too, renewing our marriage covenant is a pretty wonderful gift
