I was on the “Fish Eaters” Website today, and I understand that they do have many nice things on there. However, I would urge all of my fellow Catholic brothers and sisters to be careful of the things posted there. I was reading the section on “Lists Every Catholic Should Be Familiar With,” when I noticed this comment on the Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary:

“This novelty does not change the true Rosary and is merely presented as an option for Christians. This option, however, is one that totally disrupts the relationship between the Rosary and the Breviary’s Psalms. Stick with the classic tried-and-true Rosary. To read why adding Mysteries to the Rosary was a most horrible idea, see this page, and to read a critique of Pope John Paul II’s Encyclical on the matter…”

I think that this is very upsetting that whoever runs this website would say such things about Pope John Paul II and the Luminous Mysteries. They are also very important in terms of Christ’s ministry on earth, and it is very inappropriate for him/her to say such things.

He/She also makes it seem as if traditional Catholicism is a completely different religion, when it is just a strict and old-fashioned observance of the Catholic Church’s ways and teachings in emulation of our Lord.

I would have to say that we all must be careful on what we pick up from this website, for it might give some people bad and wrong ideas about the Church in its present form.

It gets worse than that at times. Even to the point of sedevacantism.

But the main point is: If you’re not traditional, then FishEaters is probably not for you. You’ve got to have a pretty strong Faith in order to be on there, because some radical SSPX or sedevacantists will try to plague your mind, and the only way to resist their lies is a good catechesis.

However, it is perfectly acceptable to disagree with the Luminous Mysteries. They are not a dogma, and can be debated.

I’m a member of FishEaters. Which section is that thread in? I’d like to see it. I’m doubting she would post something like that.

“Lists Every Catholic Should Be Familiar With,” under the “Being Catholic” section on the homepage.

Based on the info you gave me, I’m not going back there any time soon, except for the completion of my Christmas Novena tomorrow!

Merry Christmas BBen!

Merry Christmas to you too. 👍

I cannot find a “Being Catholic” section.

MODERATOR NOTICE

Sometimes we find mistakes on other sites as well as on our own site. It’s OK to advice people that something is a mistake.

However, it is not OK to post against another site. Many sites have problem children, as do we. They also have many holy people.

I’m sure that Fisheaters is trying it’s best to spread the Gospel as are we. Let us work cooperatively as we are all united by one God, one faith and on baptism. Let us never forget that a house divided cannot stand.

Let us extend our hand in fraternity to other sites at all times, especially when we post on CAF.

Thank You

Sorry Thomas! I will be sure not to put down any other websites. I just wanted to make known the possible dangers of theirs.

Merry Christmas to you all! 😃

After all these years, there are still people who are stuck in pre-Vatican II days. Not accepting church doctrine is not accepting the church. My understanding is that on some things such as praying the Rosary, there is some wiggle room. That in no way excuses being disrespectful to the Holy Father or one of his predecessors.

I try to pray the Rosary at least once a day. I see no problem with the alternative. The Dominicans also pray it a different way. I wouldn’t let that bother me… but your right, I would maintain a skeptical eye open…

Fisheaters admin and mods brought the banhammer down pretty hardcore a short while ago.

I would also like to point out that even if there are some imprudent comments about JPII’s Luminous Mysteries on that page, you still might take time to understand the connection with the Psalms that is mentioned.

A valid point. 👍

The full (3 sets of traditional mysteries) Rosary contains 15 decades, hence 150 Hail Marys, which is the equivalent of the 150 Psalms in the Psalter.

Tradition also has it that when Our Lady appeared to St. Dominic and gave him the gift of the Rosary, she referred to it as the “Angelic Psalter”.

I personally still stick to the 3 traditionals, because they’re what I grew up with, and because keeping track of days is easier that way (but I do try to add the Luminous Mysteries when I can.) As for the connection to the Psalter, the Bible does include a good number of songs of praise outside the Psalter (2 Samuel 22; Judith’s song of victory) so the Luminous Mysteries can be understood as their equivalent. At least, that’s what I’ve always told myself. 🙂
