Hi all,

I don’t know if you have had the same experience I have, but I recently began posting on the CARM forums and, gosh, I am left speechless. The posters there are very good at quoting Scripture but when one attempts to argue a point logically, one’s met with a barrage of quotations and the accusation that the Catholic Church is Satan’s lovechild, without any real effort to actually deal with reasonable questions.

Is there any way to dialogue with these people?

God bless.

Jonathan

Actually, no

And it isn’t just catholics. mention that you love listen to certain preachers and you are pushed off the cliff into the flames of hell forever.

Let us jst say when a certain group insist that Mother Teresa is to be joined by Billy Graham in hell, you gotta know it ain’t a friendly place.

I find that catholic.com is the most wonderful place for all people, of all faiths, to post on. Nearly everyone keeps their flame thrower in the closet.

What? They believe that Mother Teresa and Billy Graham are in hell? I’m a Catholic but love and respect Billy Graham as a great model Christian. How can they dispute two such clear saints!

I post there under the name eph45

I found in the last 2 years they have become a lot less likely to ban Catholics

Well, Rev. Graham hasn’t died yet, but he is getting very old.

Mother Teresa is obvious- she is catholic. And she expressed in some letters certain very catholic thoughts on uncertainity of her salvation among other things catholic.

Rev Graham is too ecumentical. he sat with a pope! So he too is dead in the water.

Sorry, I thought he was dead!

I don’t understand their hostility.

Maybe because they are running out of catholics to flame?

no, seriously, this is a good sign. We are supposed to love one another.

we can learn from one another.

There is a preacher named perry Stone. he is pentacostal and deals mainly in the prophectic. yet, by his admission, he has looked back on the last Supper , because of the attention it is given to by catholics, and has re-discovered its importance. (yes, it isn’t the same as Mass, but other churches still can have a holiness about it)

Just an example of what i mean by learning and forums are a great tool for learning.

Yet mention his name there, and, puff!! you are up in smoke.

Hmm… never been there but I think I’ll check it out to see what they have to say. 🙂

Hi Skye Ariel, I honestly suggest you don’t, as you won’t be treated with much respect. The only charitable person I dialogued on there with was a Lutheran fellow. Otherwise, they seem to believe the Catholic Church is in bed with Beelzebub.

Oh okay I see. Never mind then, I’ll just stay here where the people are sane. 😃

Jesse Murphy I find that catholic.com is the most wonderful place for all people, of all faiths, to post on. Nearly everyone keeps their flame thrower in the closet.
I wish I could share you enthusiasm but I don’t.😦 I’m not one to complain to mods, but there were several posts I find insulting, insults both towards me and in general. And then there are things that just confuses me about this place. I can only take CAF in small doses. I don’t this place is so wonderful.

Only when they are taking thier medication.
Come on, dude, let’s not sink to their level.

The thing that annoyed me most was not the restless quoting of Scripture passages without a context or the refusal to engage in reasonable argument but rather the continual bashing of the Church, as if that refuted anything I could possibly say. “Oh, well what do you expect from an RC” or “Typical RC trickery and brainwashing” or “No wonder you don’t know because you follow the doctrines of demons” or some such rubbish.

Skye,

Ask them about the Real Presence…explain John 6 to them including 6:53. Then show them quotes from the early church fathers on their belief in the Real Presence as well.

You can find ECF quotes here. scripturecatholic.com/the_eucharist.html

If you ask them if they believe Jesus was a liar…expect to be kicked out. 😃

I’m not sinking to thier level. I’m dead serious.
A casual reading of the threads there reveals many of the posters are suffering from some type of mental illness. Specifically what, I’m not qualified to say. But I tend to avoid places with crazy people. These are the type of people who will stalk you online, try to find your personal info, and if they can, try to contact you.
I’ve seen it happen. I personally had it happen to me. One of the reasons I don’t have a blog anymore.
Do what you want, but its best to stay away from websites like that. Religious fanatics are unstable…and can be dangerous as well.
Just some advice.

Look, you’re probably right as they seem quite frightening and fanatical to me too. It seems they can’t go one sentence without blasting away at the Catholic Church.

Fault Finding of others… a sin, a sin to teach to others, the foundation of the Christian faith community churchs.

To follow Jeuss and what he calls for, is to NEVER fault find others, but to Love others without boundaries.

Recognizing that of people to fault find the Catholic faith is the main existence to the Chritian faith communities existence, and recognizing that brings alot into perspective.

First, to never do it ourselves, to the Church or others. for it is Fault Finding, God…

Second to come to grasp that it has caused a seperationof the Church, and now to work to reunifiy the Church we must come to understand what caused the seperation… and the evil of Fault Finding o f others is a large part… a lack of education to the teaching of the faith itself and what Jesus calls us to, has came to seperate many for the Truth of the Church the the sacraments bring to them… and US…

luther and calvin have brought a seperation of people from truth based on a fault finding mind that seperates people from, God. fault finding is that of Judging, God… Jesus, what he called for, and what he gave to us.

stay away from others who fault find others, for they teach others to sin…

never fail to teach others to NOT fault find others, its a evil mind that fault finds others to increase ones self, yet its today media that sells.

Billy Graham is still alive and well, so he’s not in Hell yet. He still has time to repent and profess the true faith as espoused by CARM.

See, that is the perfect example of one fault finding another, exactly what one sould never do…the path to Hell, and judging others.

WE as Catholic can welcome being judged, but never fault find others…

Good call. Certainly we should admonish the sin that we all do in our lives but to relentlessly fall down upon others, especially brothers and sisters in Christ, is not living the life of Christ.
