I believe that my work is a gift of God. All blessings are from God. I try to honor God through my work, and do “an honest day’s work for an honest day’s pay.” But, I admit–I posted on here today, and maybe I should only post at home, when I’m not on company time. I don’t see anything wrong, with if you have a lunch break or whatever, checking out a health website, or maybe paying a bill online. But–is that wrong, too? By wrong, I mean…not that YOU think it’s wrong, but do you think God views it to be an unethical use of my time? That’s more my question.

So–plz be honest–do any of you post on here (or other boards) while at work, and do you think that God would view it as wrong?

Thanks for listening!

GOD BLESS YOU ALL, ALWAYS,
WG

I think that accessing the internet at work is permissable if:
  • company policy does not prohibit personal use of the computer or internet access;
  • you are doing so during lunch or work (your own time); and
  • you are not on an offensive or inappropriate site.

Thanks Elizabeth–I kinda thought the same about it, but I wanted objective points of view, too. 🙂

I was fired from a job a few years ago for “unauthorized” use of internet and email. The company I worked for had a written policy about it’s usage. Granted this was not the “real” reason I was fired just the official reason. Anyway, be sure your company is clear about any policies regarding this issue. On the other hand, I am the Director of Information Technology at the company I work for now. It would be up to me to draft and implement a policy if the owner so desired for me to do so. He has not asked and it is generally accepted that all of us are allowed to use the internet for personal use as long as all our work is done and we are not doing anything illegal or immoral. Our office manager does her shopping on the job and at times I post on this forum. If I have other work to do, I would consider it wrong to ignore my work and surf the internet, but if everything I can possibly do is done or at a point where my intervention is not required, I allow our people to expand their knowledge or enhance their lives.

Depends on the job.

I supervise a developmentally disabled adult for two fourteen hour shifts on the weekends at his house. Actually it is an agency owned group home.

He has all his entertainment in his bedroom and will spend the entire weekend in his bedroom watching TV, reading, playing XBox, doing art, napping etc. He comes out only at med times and to prepare meals. Because he has regular work days during the week he looks forward to independence and limited social interaction on his days off.

I could sit upstairs and watch TV. Instead I read and use the internet. So, in my case it is a non-issue.

We don’t have a restriction on internet useage at work. When we sit around waiting for calls, we are often on the computer. Our employer has restricted many websites, though. Once I tried to access the abortion video, Silent Scream silentscream.org/, and it was a restricted site. If the employer has a policy against personal internet/email use, or if it detracts from your productivity at work, I think it would be stealing.

Posting helps me keep my sanity otherwise I would be bored to death. I try to get all my duties done, but it has become an addiction that I can no longer resist…

the forum is calling me … too hard to resist… must get back to work… but so many topics that scream for replys… the work is not going anywhere, it will still be there later… must answer the latest controversy, say something witty … someone may need help or advice… I may need even more help and advice. :whacky:

The dilemma is, work or post ??? post or work ??? What’s more important my work or my soul ??? My soul or my work ???.. maybe my work IS my soul, what a horrible thought !!!

so many choices !!! What to do ? what to do ???.. oh well might as well, work at making better postings … 😛

I must admit I post at work more than I post at home. Reason being I am in front of this computer more at work than at home. I do get my work done before I click onto this website. I know in the past this forum can get very addictive but I focus on what is important. Not saying that my religion is not important but work comes first than play.

I hope not, I post at school almost everyday that I get a chance. At work I don’t have a computer to do anything so… I don’t. I can’t see why It would be wrong, unless you let it get in the way of you doing your job and it leads to you getting payed and earning when you haven’t been doing your work.
