**We are doing things concerning post modernism in our grade 12 english class. I am astounded that anyone with an intellect could prescribe to such stupid beliefs. Now that I know what postmodernism is and what it applies to, I find it incredibly infantile. No meaning to existence, no absolute truth (is that absolutley true?) and a very depressive, pointless attitude on everything. What a useless school of thought. Bring St. Thomas Aquinas back!!

Anyone else here have a problem with postmodernism?**

I have a problem with it. I didn’t used to, but recently I’ve realized the problems with secular humanism, communism, and leftist radicalism. Defiance of god’s law. I will sit here and rant with you.

I think your English teacher has probably done a poor job of explaining post-modernism, which isn’t really any sort of system of beliefs but more of a societal realization that modernism creates just as many problems at it solves.

I find it amusing that some Postmodern philosophers have evidently (I admit I have not read them myself) written long, dense books about how words have no meaning. If they really believe that, then couldn’t they have just typed “anpopiup aopnvipdihjpzf ier”, or scribbled some lines on a piece of paper to say the same thing?

There is for whatever reason a large appeal to making the world seem alienated and meaningless.

The term is used so ambiguously it has no meaning. If your teacher is arguing for moral nihilism then he/she should call it what it is. Other words in this category are ‘globalization’ and ‘deconstruction’. The latter does have a meaning, which I don’t pretend to understand, but it has entered common usage merely as way to dress up commonplace thoughts.

Actually I’ve seen the postmodernist method of deconstruction used as a way to derive God from the concepts of Heidegger I believe it was. We can not believe that everything new is anathema- where it can be used inside Christian philosophy/theology new methods should also be used. We don’t live in the age of logical positivism- there are plenty of cross overs between modern philosophy and theology.

Why take apart when we can put together instead?

I believe Jesus’philosophy is a simple one.

Trust God
Love God
Follow God.

The good thing about a solid education is that it exposes students to many philosophical view points and different perspectives. A student can not think if only exposed to one perspective.

You are lucky your school is exposing you to a variety of topics. God will use this knowledge to make you a wise christian who can weigh many perspectives.

This is a slight problem I have with the way humanities are taught in contemporary times. We are exposed to a number of perspectives, but there is very little attention paid to the fact that they can’t all be right.
