Ditto.

But I have had people tugging at my wrist while I am in prayer so that* they *can hold hands during the prayer, even though others may not want the same. And I have gotten a furious gazes when I abstain from it. I mean no offense. 🤷

I often wonder where this comes from. It seems to sow a seed of discord. :
Those are kind of my thoughts.

There is nothing that prohibits the holding of hands, but that does not mean that someone should be going into Mass with the expectation that the person next to them will feel the need\desire to hold hands during the Lord’s Prayer. And it certainly should not mean that one should be poking, proding or nudging the person next to them in an effort to get them to hold hands.

So should we extend it to other parts of the Mass? 🙂
When I said I “think it can be argued why it is not a welcome addition to the liturgy”, I meant in the context of lay persons, in any case, the solution is quite simple: follow the GIRM.
To push the point further, I don’t think any lay person should complement the Mass/GIRM with their own performance pieces. 🙂

If someone asked the holding hands during the Lord’s Prayer in Mass question to Pope Francis–would Pope Francis answer?

I think he would! I don’t think that Pope Francis is afraid of such simple questions and isn’t worried about hurting people’s feelings by just giving simple answers to such simple questions–I’m sure he’s probably heard the issue brought up a million times.

I think the Catholic Church just needs someone to ask him!

Whatever he said I wouldn’t have any problem with going with it. Shouldn’t every Catholic feel that way?

I was taught, and instruct our family to pray the Lord’s Prayer during Mass with hands folded in prayer, and head bowed.
Me, too.

I’m also about the only one who doesn’t hold hands or raise their hands during the Our Father. Never felt comfortable about it, but I try and make up for any perceived coldness or unfriendliness by giving others a pleasant handshake of peace.
